First off how many teams in this town are going to use that name...

Second what a lame logo......at least put a wave on the thing.....

Third, Preeths, can I drop your name so I can try and get an interview the owner?
Just say the word and I'll get in touch with him and ask a few questions and post it here.

I did an interview for UFLaccess.com and posted it on the UFL thread if you want to see my style.

I can't stand the way the ABA does the west coast ball, but I'll check it out and report back and let you all know if its any beter then the WILDCATS!!

I would love to see PBL on the west coast but that's not gonna happen.

Hey Mr. Lee, are the Buzz playing in the West Coast Pro Basketball League? If so talk it up.....I'll give you props!!!!

yea ask them why they'd opt for the Amateur Basketball Association. IDK if the PBL would take them... but at least the WCBL or IBL would be a lot better.

I will, and if there are any other questions anyone wants me to ask just post them in this thread and I'll do my best to get them asked.

Coach Mason comes to the SAN DIEGO SURF as the former Assistant Coach for the San Diego Wildcats Basketball Team of the American Basketball Assoiciation from 2007 to 2009. He served as Assistant Director and Coach for the Superstar Invitational Basketball Camps in San Diego in 2007 and coached the Long Beach Team of the Summer Pro League one season.

Coach Mason retired in 2009 as a high school teacher and basketball coach in San Diego County high schools and more recently as a high school Dean of Students, with induction into Who`s Who Among America`s Teachers 2002. His impressive 31-year high school coaching career included various positions from boys’ and girls’ Assistant Basketball Coach through boys’ Head Varsity Coach. Mason also taught physical education for the Juvenile Court System and community schools.

Above statement is off the Surf web site..........

DO NOT take my gathering of info for this thread as if I'm kissing any back side.
I have not met this team our the owners. I love minor league ball and I like to support
a local team. I know all about the ABA and will not get any "PIE IN THE SKY" ideas about
this team, or any team in this league. If you don't believe me just look up my old posts about the Wildcats and how
I praised and slamed things they did.

There I said it I feel much better now.......:-)

ANYONE who is entering this ridiculous league is either
1/ someone who opens a small business without any due diligence
2/ a dreamer
3/ an idiot
4/ trying to see if they can make a go of it in the cheapest league of all before they take the plunge and go to a "real" league.

Like all involved in Joes' league, I wish them well. The original (2001 IIRC) San Diego Wildfire actually tried to do things the right way. Sadly like many involved in the most Mariana Trench of leagues they couldn't overcome the many many many many many many shortcomings of the ABA.

Don't forget the Stingrays of the IBL that folded. I went to see one of their games at the Sports Arena and they were BAD.....

FIRST PRE-SEASON GAME Sat. Nov. 7 with the Clayton,CA Showtime coming to San Diego 7:30pm at the Kroc Center, 73rd & University Ave.

The above statement from the web site........There is no web site for "Clayton Showtime".......will either of these teams play this game.......we shall see....I will go and get the inside info.......more to follow

One more thing this game is goning to be played at the old home of the Wildcats.........but the new Surf home is about 1 hour north of this location......so the preseason game isn't being played with in a 10 mile radius of the home arena.......and the Kroc center is in the low rent district of the County.......and the school where they will be playing their home games is a privite school in an upper middle class area.......home many people do you think will go to this game? I'll say about 100...................we shall see

The following from the web site.....

Meet the new San Diego Surf ABA league basketball players at the first pre-season Game Nov 7th!
Bessy Anas'san - 10/29/2009
Oct 29, 2009, San Diego - The San Diego Surf (www.sdsurfhoops.com), San Diego’s own American Basketball Association “ABA” pro team is getting ready for its inaugural season commencing in November and December.

Players recently signed include Jamal Kendrick [Midwestern State Univ], Mike McNair [N Arizona Univ], Aaron Hands [UC Riverside], John Clark [Univ St. Mary], Brian Hills [Univ Anchorage], Danny Mills [Oregon Tech], Chris Agnes [Morehouse College], and Jarett Flechsenhaar [Mayville State] with more to be named at a later date.

Terry Mason, with 31 years experience coaching in local high schools, Los Angeles Summer League and the defunct San Diego Wildcats in 2006 and 2007, heads up an enthusiastic group of young men ready to make a name in the Southern California Division of the ABA.

The Surf’s first pre-season game will be played 7:30pm Saturday Nov. 7 at the Joan Kroc Center (73rd and University Avenue) where the Surf will host the Clayton, CA “Showtime” of northern California. Pre-Season ticket prices from $4 - $8 at the door kick-start the family-friendly season of affordable entertainment. Along with the game action, the Surf is also planning NBA-like half-time entertainment, dance team, announcer and a DJ.

The SoCal Division of the ABA includes Honolulu, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Riverside, Compton, Newport Beach as well as San Diego. More info on the Surf players, and team sponsorship will become available soon. The 2009-2010 season schedule can be seen at www.SDSURFHoops.com.

Media Coordinator – Bessy Anas'san media@sdsurfhoops.com 858-922-0105

Sounds like they are at least taking some proactive steps. Sadly they will be completely overwhelmed by three letters..................ABA.

You could have the LA Lakers, Boston Celtics and NY Knicks enter this crummy league and they'd leave within a month. Why? Wouldn't be there fault. It would be down to a octogenerian CEO running the whole she-bang out of a basement in Indiana. He might have a great idea, he might mean well, he might even really, really want it to work, but it won't. Flat out, this is the worst run sports league I have ever seen in my life. Its my humble opinion this is the worst run sports league in the history of North American sports. Now maybe the Tasmanian indoor rugby league, or Tanzanian soccer association or the Kazakhstan rodeo circuit has been driven into the ground in a more spectacular fashion but nothing I've ever seen in many many years on this mortal coil even comes close to this debacle.

The San Diego Surf are trying all right but they are part of the ABA. That means they will
1/ fold
2/ never materialize
3/ move to another league

THATS IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After 7 years of following this ridiculous league I'm at the point where I can safely say that there is no team anywhere that would thrive under ABA management.

OK, going to the game tonight with the family. I will take notes and report back what I find out......This team has done a better job of getting the word out then the Wildcats did, but I still think they should join the W.C.B.L. in the spring and then compare the two and then go form there......more to come...
