ABA Adds Central Valley Dawgs to 2009-10 Schedule
September 17, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Central Valley Dawgs

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Central Valley Dawgs have been added to the roster of teams that will begin play in December. "We are very pleased to have Dominick Young and his organization as part of the ABA this season," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "Originally Dominick targeted 2010 but has put together a tremendous operation, including a great venue, in a very short time and is ready to "give it a go" this season. Playing in the Central Valley means that his team can play in both our SoCal and NoCal Divisions with easy travel to and from both."
"Our goal is to bring great family fun and entertainment to the Central Valley while also building up and giving back to the surrounding communities," stated owner/player Dominick Young. "This will be a team made up of not only professional basketball players but also local players who want an opportunity to play on a professional team."

"A new team in the Central Valley means new hope for our community," added GM Maureka M. Davis. "We have watched players grow up and build unmatchable athletic talent, players like Ja'Vance Coleman, Demetrius Porter, Shannon Swillis and of course, our own Dominick Young, who all played for the Fresno State basketball team. We will also have local high school standouts and players from other colleges in the Central Valley. Because this is a community oriented team, the Dawgs also have extended its team accessibility to "just your average guy" who loves the game and possesses the talent to compete at the ABA level."

The team has secured a wonderful venue with the help of Rene Hernandez and the McDermott Fieldhouse staff in Lindsay, CA. It is a full-service facility that it not only perfect for a professional team with a gym, meeting rooms, sponsor seating, but it is perfect for family fun. The Dawgs have established a strong partnership with Fresno businesses like Money Good Wireless Cricket located at 3890 N. Cedar Ave in Fresno and Money Good Entertainment. Latino artist Produk is also supporting the team.

"I'm excited," stated local basketball star Ja'Vance Coleman. "I'm going to bring my three point shooting expertise to the team, and it is great to be back with Dominick. Together we hope to build one of the biggest and best organizations in the ABA. It feels good to be back on the court with these guys, this is not only a great opportunity for exposure for a lot of us, but it is also a great chance to boost the community through athletics." For some laughs, stop by the Dawgs website (another free wix.com site - God forbid these teams actually pay any money for a professional site). Be sure to read Young's bio (which may be tough considering the grammatical mess). Some 'highlights':
"After creating and owning several successful ABA teams" - name one 'successful' team...

Would that be Fresno last year, who played a game or two, allegedly 'merged' with the Raptors (creating the infamous Wash-no franchise) during a snowstorm, then faded away without playing one game?

Or the here/gone Fresno Legends?

How about the Fayetteville Fantastics?

Maybe the Chicago Rockstars?
http://www.oursportscentral.com/boards/showthread.php?p=36304

Or the Visalia Dawgs?

http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3115053 (Gwizzlie-esque release here)

And let's not forget Young's "uncensored" website that promoted soft-core porn movies - let's hear it for family-friendly! At least he closed that site (probably didn't pay the hosting fee)

The guy can't even think up a new name, so he recycles Central Valley Dawgs.

(just had a sudden thought - could our missing buddy OldFoolBaller be DYoung? Hmmmm...)

BTW - I thought the teams were capped already for this season?

Oh, but I'm sure they are. Only one man knows what they're capped at, though. At least that's what I've been told.

One thing I have noticed about many ABA teams websites is that they have a lot of rap music playing when they come on. Is it realistic to think you can draw sponsors with words like "im a hustler till I die"? Maybe I am wrong but it doesn't seem to yell professional or even family friendly.

Neither does porn, and yet we have Mr. Young with a team.

You can in theory make money on porn to fund the team.

The gangsta rap might help with "street cred" (and if that "street cred" actually translated into ticket sales, that would help with revenue), but it doesn't help with real sponsors that have cash. Only the BS kind the rapper that started the Atlanta Krunk (his name is slipping) touted. The Krunk couldn't even get the heat turned on in their arena.

I held a Pro-Am Tournament two years ago and Dominick Young calls me and says I dont have the $250 to enter the tournament, but I will give you 100 pair of Jordans you can sell to make the money or hold until I sell my car...

THAT IS CLASSIC

What about this one...we went up to play them one time when they was called Visila Dawgs...we won the game by 40+ points...

During breakfast the next day I open the paper only to read that they beat us by 20pts, he and another player had triple doubles, one player had a 53pt, 22rebs, 14ast and 12blks...mind you this guy he was referring to was only 6'3

After the game he and his assistants wouldnt let me see the scorebook, took it to the locker room and the was the last I saw of it...

Hey wait...didnt he get in trouble at Fresno State for point shaving...oooooh yea thats what the writer told me...

I wouldnt wanna see him on my schedule if I was one of the teams...

I can see why you took your team out of the ABA.

And I can also see where the Utica Wreckers found their scorekeeper. :)

That may be the only place you WILL see him or his team, though...

you certainly won't see them at your gym for a game...

That's not point shaving, that's point padding. (I'd keep my own book next time, as well as the video)

Two things immediately jump out at me after reading this great post.

1/ Burrell made a great decision to jump ship from the ABA
2/ Dominick Young, Joe Newman and the ABA are all perfect together.

Pro Basketball Comes To The Central Valley
October 3, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Central Valley Dawgs

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the Central Valley Dawgs will begin play in December. "We're very excited about this team and having the ABA back in Central Valley," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO. "Their goal is to bring great family fun and entertainment to the Central Valley while building up and giving back to the surrounding communities. This is a team made up of not only known professional players but also local players who want an opportunity to play pro ball."

"A new team in the Central Valley means new hope for our communities," added team owner/player Dominick Young. "We've watched some of these players grow up and they have some unmatchable athletic skills; we will be very competitive...guys like Ja' Vance Coleman, Demetrius Porter, Shannon Swillis and me, all of whom played for Fresno State University. We have some local high school standouts too and players from other colleges in the Central Valley."

The team will be playing at McDermont Field House thanks to the help of Rene Hernandez and the McDermott Fieldhouse staff. "This is a full service facility that is not only perfect for a pro team with a gym, meeting rooms, sponsor seating, but it is perfect for family fun," added Young.

The Dawgs also have a strong partnership with Fresno businesses such as Money Good Wireless Cricket located at 3890 N. Cedar Avenue and Money Good Entertainment. For more information, call 559 493 9872 or email centralvalleydawgs@yahoo.com or visit www.centralvalleydawgs.com or www.abalive.com.

And what's pathetic - it is virtually the exact same release, with different people saying the "quotes" and turning a statement from the first release intoa quote for the second ("This is a full service facility that is not only perfect for a pro team with a gym, meeting rooms, sponsor seating, but it is perfect for family fun," added Young).

Words cannot possibly describe how abjectly ridiculous this league truly is.

I read this, then went back to first post, then re-read the October, then did cut and paste so they side by side and for first time in probably 2-3 years................the ABA actually surprised me.

Joe has even outdone himself and the Mariana Trench depths that this ridiculous league will stoop to. I used to feel sorry for some of people who got roped into this fiasco, now it's like driving past an accident in the street, I stare and wonder what happened.

If Joe Newman was still alive, that never would have happened.
