WWSU Sports Central learned earlier this afternoon that Dayton Warbirds Head Coach Matt King has been suspended for this weekends game against the River City Rage.
The suspension comes after complaints from the Rage front office that they did not receive video tape of the Warbirds by Wednesday.
National Indoor Football League Rules state that teams must send opponents video tape by Wednesday of the game week. King stated that it was impossible for tape to arrive in St. Louis on Wednesday after his team beat Cincinnatti Monday night.
"I think they are afraid to play us. They don't want to get out-coached." Said King Friday afternoon.
An appeal won't be given to the NIFL office since the rulebook clearer states the procedure. The Warbirds did send videotape which according to River City arrived on Thursday.
"We had two cameras set up from different angles. We do more than necessary for teams by making our video look good." King also said that the tape (or DVD) that River City sent did not work on an actual DVD player but rather had to be played on a computer which prevented the team from actually rewinding and pausing the game film.
King will turn the coaching duties for the game to Defensive Coordinator Carl Allen. Mike Savino, Special Teams Coordinator will handle changes in strategy and personnel substitutions. "I have the confidence in my staff. I know Mike and Carl very well and we're all on the same page."
King will not travel with the team to St. Louis this weekend. Game time against the top-two teams in the Atlantic East is scheduled for Saturday at 8:00PM/ET.
