ABA Team Due Diligence 2005

THE FOLLOWING MUST BE IN PLACE BY JUNE 1, 2005, TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY IN THE 2005-2006 ABA SEASON. THE DOCUMENTS MUST BE SUBMITTED TO THE LEAGUE OFFICE NO LATER THAT JULY 1, 2005:


1. Executed Venue Lease (at least 1 year) and minimum capacity of 3,000 seats
2. Payment in full of the Revised Reservation Fee
3. Delivery of completed ABA schedule request of at least 30 dates by JUNE 1, 2005.
4. Irrevocable Letter of Credit for operations.
5. Letter of Reference from Banking Institution.
6. Letter of Agreement with Hotel confirming visiting teams’ rooms are available and secured.
7. 2005 Operational Budget and 3 Year Pro-Forma Financials
8. Full Organizational Chart
a. General Manager
b. Head Coach / Assistant Coach
c. Sales and Marketing Executive (or firm)
d. Office Manager
e. Accountant (or firm)
f. Trainer (or firm)
g. Game-day Coordinator
9. Letter of Support from Mayor’s office and/or City Council
10. Letter of Support and enrollment in Chambers of Commerce
11. Radio broadcast and marketing agreement with local station
12. Completed Name, Logos and domain URL (website) name for team
13. Complete Marketing Plan and Execution
14. Copy of incorporation documents for team or company
15. Proof of Funds of $150,000 in Bank by SEPTEMBER 15, 2005

They've got no chance of more than half the teams pulling all of those things off.

They'll either bend the requirements, ignore them, or have a lot of teams fall by the wayside. I can't see any way they have the gumption to enforce them, and I can't see these owners having the money to actually adhere to them.

These things cost money and take organization. Most ABA teams are woefully short on each.

It's ironic that while the league desperately needs standards like these, they're the things that are likely to cripple or kill it.

ABA Team Requirements 2005

1. JOCK TRAX STAT PROGRAM - $1,000
2. GAME COMMANDER - $1,000
3. 3-D LIGHTING SYSTEM - $750
4. ABA TEAM INTERACTIVE WEBSITE - $425, plus monthly maint.
5. ONE IN-MARKET VISIT by RICARDO RICHARDSON - $1,000 plus expenses
6. REFEREE ADMINISTRATION - $500 (one time fee)
7. TRAVEL CONTINGENCY FUND - $3,000*

THIS MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO FULFILLING THE ABA DUE DILIGENCE 2005. ALL
TEAMS MUST COMPLY WITH THESE REQUIREMENTS TO BE ELIGIBLE TO PLAY.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS ARE INCLUDED IN THE DUE DILIGENCE DOCUMENT.

$1000 plus expenses for the opportunity to be visited by Ricardo Richardson. How will Ricardo be able to scrape by???

But a grand for a league employee to come in and talk to a league franchise?

Let's get real here: Game Ops Commander is a great program, but you could do the same job with Winamp and you can get that for free.
