Kalamazoo, MI- The Kalamazoo Wings, proud member of the ECHL and affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers and San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League, announce they have agreed to terms with forward Darryl Lloyd and defenseman Jeremy Swanson for the upcoming 2009-10 season; per team policy, the terms of the contracts will be undisclosed.
Lloyd joins the K-Wings after spending the past three seasons in the ECHL with the Victoria Salmon Kings. A five-year pro, Lloyd has not only succeeded at the premiere ‘AA’ level, he has also seen action in the American Hockey League.
A physical hard-nose player, Lloyd has amassed 770 minutes in penalties in 262 games played.
“Darryl (Lloyd) is an agitator who knows how to get under the skin of the opposition,” said Wade Welsh, vice president/general manager. “He comes highly recommended by Dan Belisle (K-Wings’ vice president of hockey operations), who thinks Darryl can become a fan-favorite in Kalamazoo.
Lloyd is coming off an impressive 2008-09 campaign, in which he recorded 36 points (18 goals, 18 assists) for the Salmon Kings.
Before turning pro, the native of Pickering, Ontario, played four seasons of junior hockey, including three seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with the Windsor Spitfire.
Adding to their defensive core, the K-Wings have added Jeremy Swanson, a former 6th round selection (169th overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2002 National Hockey League Entry Draft.
A five-year pro, Swanson brings championship experience to the K-Wings locker room, as he was a member of the Cincinnati Cyclones 2008 Kelly Cup championship team.
Swanson’s resume also includes 72 games played in the AHL, most recently last season with the Toronto Marlies.
“Jeremy (Swanson) is a steady stay-at-home defenseman,” said Welsh. “His experience will be a great influence and should help in the development of our younger players.”
Swanson played four seasons in the OHL, including three with the Barrie Colts, where he helped the team to three straight postseason appearances.
The additions of Lloyd and Swanson give the K-Wings 14 players signed for the upcoming 2009-10 season. Also signed for next season are forwards Rick Cleaver, Trent Daavettila, Andrew Fournier, Erik Johnson, Bryan Jurynec, Anton Kharin and Sean O’Conner. Also signed for this season are defensemen Devin Featherstone, Sam Ftorek, Matt Krug, Jon Landry and goaltender Ryan Nie.
