Hello all,
For sum reason I decided to pop online today and visit my favorite minor league site...www.oursportscentral.com and visit the message board.
I saw a post asking what happen to me and my team. Well I will like to clear the air and let it be known what happened.
Well after a great 25-5 season this past season in the ABA and a trip to the finals I had talked to Paul Reeths about 2 weeks before the finals and told him win or lose this would be my last season in the ABA.
After winning the first 2 games and then seeing Scott Lumley try to take our win from us over the Broncs and the fact that Joe Newman allowed us and a few other teams to add a player, that he then allowed the owners to vote if we should be allowed to play in the finals. After a 4-1 vote of yes, we went and played a great final game and i am not happy with losing but with all the problems in the ABA on and off the court I was happy to have lead my guys to the finals.
Well then we was to be reimbursted up to $200 per ticket for teams that flew out, well today is August 10th only about 5 1/2 months after the tournament and we are owed $2800 form either the ABA or Scott Lumley, but we know what we havent been paid.
Here I sit today in my living room a week removed from taking my boys and girls teams to wonderful Las Vegas for the Youth Nationals. My boys finished
3rd and my girls finished 4th.
We are running a fulltime basketball academy catered to youth, but will also run some adult programs.
The program name is the Buzz Basketball Academy (www.buzzbasketballacademy.org) and will be updated soon.
As for myself I will be going down to Sol City Sports Center on the Campus of Alliant International University in San Diego, CA for the En Fuego Hoops Showcase for a chance to coach down in the LNBP. I am trying to better my career and move on to BIGGER and BETTER things.
I will also be going back to coaching high school basketball where I have been a part time assistant since going into the ABA. Back to a full time coach, where we have produced current LA Laker Jordan Farmar, NCAA Champ Larry Drew at UNC and a few others that are playing major NCAA D-1 ball.
I can say that I am happy to be gone from the ABA. I do thank all of you here on this website for the words you had for me in the past both good and bad because they all made me better and some even helped me make my program better. I really like this site and i was one to listen to some of hte words u had...
I went 89-30 in my 4 seasons as head coach, one trip to the finals, western coach of the year, ran a top program with out the funds that others had and survived. We had a website, stats, uniforms, home gym and some other things other teams with big money didnt have.
It is about time for me to head out and get the kids from camp and school, my 6yr old son is playing a lot of basketball these days and I am loving all the freetime. Those boring non-info conference calls, meetings, website with now info...the league was a national recreation league...but Joe Newman wasnt the bigges joke of the league that honor would go to the head of ABA Referees. He is the happiest right now that I am gone.
lastly I am talking to some people now about starting a spring pro league and have a few former NBA players that are interested in helping out and a couple u see on ABC and ESPN right now...remember I am not Joe, I talk and speak only the truth.
