Hebert and Wallace Named SIFL Special Teams Players Of The Year

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 21, 2009) - Tommy Hebert of the Louisiana Swashbucklers and Darrick Wallace will share the Southern Indoor Football League's 2009 Special Teams Player of The Year Award, it was announced today.

Voting was conducted among SIFL coaches, team front offices, league staff and a composite fan vote. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players.

Hebert, who led the SIFL scorers with 115 points, converted 93.3 percent of his PAT attempts, second only to Nathan Parseghian of Billings in the Indoor Football League, who was 49 of 50 in six games. Hebert also had a SIFL high 15 field goals and FG percentage conversion rate of 48.4 percent.

Ok...Enough is enough.

I guess after naming the All SIFL awards from a 5 team League are we ready for the SIFL Hall of Fame. Is it really an award if you are realistically competing with maybe FOUR other people for the award????

I have said it before ....It is like being the Valedictorian of your HOME SCHOOL.

Play a championship game (all be it just a second round tourney).....Crown a champion out of just a few teams-- but the post season awards are comical.

All SIFL team? Really???? Really.....

Why send these absolutely ridiculous press releases out.

You can't find your way to the path of legitimacy through official sounding press releases.

We are talking 5 teams of which four make the playoffs.....One team actually hoisted the "TEXAS" Championship banner....Are you FREAKIN' Kidding me? What is next....The Central Texas Division Champion???

The Presidents Cup? How about call it what it is.....You just outlasted 4 other teams in a grueling battle of a TWO game Post season.

Each player should receive a ribbon of participation award and the season should just end.

I cant wait to see the BALFOR Ring design of CZ's for the President's Cup Champion.

Trifecta,

I remember you saying a while back that you were going to leave these guys alone, yet here you are again.

These guys play for the love of the sport, make next to nothing for doing it and have to contend with bad arena conditions, low turnouts and next to nothing in media coverage.

I think that every single one of them should win an award. Let the league call the awards whatever they see fit and let them give out as many as they want.

Just because it is a start up league and A LOT smaller than most others does not mean that it means any less to the players, coaches, staff and fans. Every single one of them works their butts of to put on a show each and every week, then they get mocked by the likes of you.

I know that you are not picking on any one person, but when you downgrade the hard work these people put in on a weekly basis it's just plain mean. It's like the big bully who was left back 2 years in the 8th grade picking on the 7th grade football team.

BACK THE HECK OFF!!!

I will point out one mistake that the league did make..........the award for biggest pain in the butt.................and we all know who that goes to.

Trifecta has a right to think what he wants to thinks and post what he wants to post. As adults, we need to respect that basic freedom as well as well as not abuse that freedom by saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over ....

The credibility issue of a small league will always be put to task. The late, great WIFL only had four teams and I had to deal with that on the boards as well.

Regarding the vailidity of all-league teams, my personal opinion is that the best players in your league need to be recognized and their efforts appreciated. I snickered that some of our coaches and staff wanted a first team and a second team ... ``Uh, that would make 40 percent of our league all-stars. Nope.''

Now, Trifecta, let us discus some sports history. Are you familiar with the original six?

For 25 years, the NHL consisted of just six teams -- Montreal, Toronto, Detriot, Boston, the New York Rangers and Chicago. Imagine that, Trifecta, a NATIONAL hockey league only had SIX teams for a quarter of a century. I'm sure you would have loved that.

The fans of that era certainly did. Great rivarlries were formed, and the quality of play has been considered excellent by those who are much more knowledgable than you and especially me. And all six of those franchises are still active today.

It'd been interesting to see the reaction of a Canadians fan or a Bruins fan if you raised the question of legitimacy of those franchises during that time period.

Just trying to put some perspective into this discussion, which I fully expect to continue.

You are spending too much time on the IFL boards....The IRANIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE....That is the board where they want absolutely NO differing of opinions. Anyone who marches out of step is removed.

Did I use Profanity? No

Did I attack anyone personally? NO

Did I say anything inapropriate? NO

I just wanted to express my opinion which is what I thought Boards were all about. If you only want ONE SIDE....That is called a BLOG.

If the whole message board system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Ban Trifecta - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to me, but I'm not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America.

I cant believe the SIFL has been compared to the ORIGINAL 6 NHL Hockey teams. WOW!!!! Cities like Detroit, New York, Boston, Toronto, Montreal, and Chicago compare ALMOST perfectly to Houma, Lake Charles, Arcadiana, College Station, and Austin. Almost IDENTICAL comparisons.

Ok...Enough is enough.
Well, I finally agree with you.
My God trifecta, were you the neglected child in your family? I've tried to be polite to you and respect your point of view but you make it awful difficult for anyone to take your criticism serious. It's more of a broken record from an ignorant stand point.

You were offerd free tickets all year, even to the playoffs. You've been given multiple oportunities to see the teams in action, meet players, staff, and fans. you always reject it and demean everything about the league without even minimal effort to take a first hand look at it.

You say you were a Wrangler fan which I highly doubt, unless your views have changed. The AFL started out with only a few teams, and even used a couple of travel teams only in their history. How could you become a fan of such a league as those posers with their pretend football?

Do you think the NFL started out on a grand stage?
They tried to stick their nose in the air at smaller league just like you. They thought they were the dominate league and no one could touch them. They scoffed at the AAFC as a semi-pro bush league just like you attempt to do to the SIFL. There was an arrogant uproar when the NFL wanted to accept some of the AAFC teams into their "Premier" league.

They even scheduled the NFL defending champs to play the first game against the "semi-Pro" Browns to prove their point. The NFL champs got their Butt's whooped. That semi-pro team went on to win the NFL Championship in their first season, they went to the NFL Title game in their first 6 years in the NFL and won 3 of those.

I feel Louisiana, Austin, and Acadiana could hold their own in the IFL or the af2, that's a pretty good position in the leagues first season. You can point to Acadiana's 6-6 record, but who did they lose to? 3 times to the 11-1 Swashbucklers and twice to the 10-2 TurfCats. Five of their 6 losses are to 2 teams.

If you feel the league is unworthy of credibility or your attention why do you feel your opinion matters? Why do you continually come around to poke at something that disgusts you? Are you just lonely?

I guess after naming the All SIFL awards from a 5 team League are we ready for the SIFL Hall of Fame. Is it really an award if you are realistically competing with maybe FOUR other people for the award????
It's comments like this that make you a basher/hater instead of constructive critism. We all know it takes awhile for the HOF. Even the majors have time constaints on entering established ones, and we could poke some holes in some of the people they've enshrined.

This is the 10th season of the af2's existence and they are preparing the first ever class for their HOF as we speak. So yes, it's coming, but still a long ways off.

yes, it's an award if only 2 are competing, but most know there were more than 4 people competing in each catagory. Even the guy in last place was competing and giving it his all day in and day out so don't insult them with your arrogant attitude.

maybe you're right, things that start out small are a waste of time. Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Walmart, NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB. yeah, if you can't start out on top of the world and without critics maybe it's best to just sit home and complain about it.

I have said it before ....It is like being the Valedictorian of your HOME SCHOOL.
That all depends mein trifecta, was there only one pupil in that Home school?
Or was it a family of 8 kids like that reality tv show? Or 17 like the family that just had the parents murdered? Or maybe that religious compound with hundreds of kids being HOME SCHOOLED by their 7 mom's?

Apparently you've never won an award for anything, possibly never even a pat on the back because you've got such disdain for others recieving recognition.

Play a championship game (all be it just a second round tourney).....Crown a champion out of just a few teams-- but the post season awards are comical.
Glad we could humor you as you insult the players. They've got full time jobs and families to care for. Many don't live in town and it's very difficult to make practice and clear the weekends for $200 per week. They get paid peanuts to put their bodies at risk for our entertainment. They put out a huge effort to do what they love, and you who claims to be a fan can't put out minimal effort to attend even one freakin game for free! Yet your insults are supposed to be respected as a valid opinion?

All SIFL team? Really???? Really.....
DUH YEAH!
The name of the league is the SIFL. They didn't call them the Indoor Football Awards or the greatest players of the 50 yard game. All it means is these are the ones viewed as the best in this particular league, the SOUTHERN INDOOR FOOTBALL LEAGE. You did realize that's what SIFL stands for didn't you?

Why send these absolutely ridiculous press releases out.

You can't find your way to the path of legitimacy through official sounding press releases.
Once again your hypocritical ignorance rears it's ugly head. Over the existence of the league (which goes beyond the start of the season) you gripe about getting the word out, not enough people know of the sport, there's not enough advertising and local PR. Then you complain everytime an article or press release is published.

please tell us how you would get the word out? Do nothing because some haters will ridicule? Spend hundreds of thousand or even millions like the AFL did to spread the word of a niche sport to the masses? Explain your affordable strategy of spreading the word throughout the countryside without any help from the local media. Would you really spend 4, 5, 10 times on advertising them is possible to ever recoup? the AFL has finally realized that's not good business planning.

Maybe they should hire you to do the press releases. Would it be better to issue releases saying we suck, we're posers, we're not a big enough or a formidiable enough form of entertainment so don't bother coming out even if the tickets are free?

have you ever ran a business? been part of an advertising or PR campaign?
Do you believe everything you see on commercials, or what the 4 major leagues release?

We are talking 5 teams of which four make the playoffs.....One team actually hoisted the "TEXAS" Championship banner....Are you FREAKIN' Kidding me? What is next....The Central Texas Division Champion???
Come on, make up your mind. depending on your argument you say it was either 5 or 6 teams which ever best benefits your position. You can't have it both ways, stick to the same one, which ever you prefer but only one.

You complain about only 2 rounds, now the number of teams that made it. Would you have preferred only 3 made it to the post season? Give the #1 seed a first round bye and automatic bid to the title game?

The AFL put 12 of their 19 teams into the playoffs, the Chicago Rush limped ito the post season with a losing record and won the title, then the Columbus Destroyers did the same thing but lost in the title game.

yes, many things that happened this season were not the preferred or optimum choice but it looks like they haven't done any worse than any of the 50 yard game leagues before them.

The Texas team with the best Inter-State record can easily be crowned the Texas Champ, remember the math equation, only need 2 teams involved to get a winner. Texas Division, it's in the works, hold your breath and we'll get back to ya.

The Presidents Cup? How about call it what it is.....You just outlasted 4 other teams in a grueling battle of a TWO game Post season.
Once again let's refer back to that 6 team bush league NHL, they've also got a Presidents Cup. Have you seen some of the silly trophies that goes back and forth between college teams? And there's only 2 teams in the race for those every single year, no one else is eligible. How silly is that? An axe, a hat, bell, whiskey/moonshine barrel (lol). Who came up with the stupid name of the Red River Rivalry?

If you don't think it was grueling go over to vidswap.com and watch the playoff game last sat between Austin and Acadiana. How about you come to one practice and see if you can make it through the entire thing without puking all over your shorts.

Each player should receive a ribbon of participation award and the season should just end.Your insults to these players isn't amusing.
They put it all on the line and you can't check out one game for free.

You sir are the poser upon your faux pedestal spewing your ignorance and hatred. If you don't vote your critism of the elected official is moot, if you can't make an attempt to to try a product your critism can be construed as
fraud and malicious intent. Why do you even come here?
Your insults to these players isn't amusing.

I cant wait to see the BALFOR Ring design of CZ's for the President's Cup Champion.
yesterday I had a Wake Forest player at my house. My daughter says, "WOW, that's a big ring you've got there." He handed it to her and proudly told us about his playing days, it was a magnificant ring. He has played some indoor and arenaball, been to several NFL camps and will tryout for the Dallas Cowboys Next week.

Was it a Conference championship ring? No. A Bowl ring? No.
It was as you would call a participation ring. He got it just because he was on the Wake Forest team. Wake Forest you say, they're not a top ranked team. They play in a Division with over 100 schools and most of them suck.
We all know if you don't make a BcS Bowl and win you don't deserve anything beside a ribbon and pat on the head.

maybe you're just jealous, but to those that actually set goals and have dreams, then go out and do everything within their power to achieve them deserve praise, not contempt from whinny lonely guy.

Yes, the winners of the SIFL Championship game deserve rings and respect.
PM me your real name and address and I'll send you a nice little plaque to hang on your wall for being the biggest ass on the forum with a Golden Turd mounted on a keyboard.

Fan Club/Group of the Year
The Knights of the Crawfish Table - The true backbone of the Houma Conquerors fans. They have members traveling to all road games and put on one of the best tailgate atmosphere's throughout the 50 yard game. It takes lots of volunteers, effort, and money to put together. They deserve huge props and are a worthy selection to represent the SIFL.

Animal House? Are you kidding me, that's what you want to be compared to?

And I know you're smarter than you pretend. I don't recall anyone comparing cities to each other, the comparison was the 6 team league. And yes, there were ignorant people ranting against them back then also.

And yes, you did make personal attacks. Did you list names, no it was more of a generic blanket insulting every single player, coach, staff member, and fan of the league. I have spoke with many that take your hatred personal.

I have NEVER questioned the heart of ANY PLAYER. The fact is that the awards are not handed out by the Players. The awards are handed out by a league who is desparately trying to gain legitimacy. The athletes and coaches are not the problem....Never have been.

Caballo, Your wheels have come off.

WOW! You have really gotten personal. I have never seen this side of you.

My wheels are just fine. And if you believe my thinking that many of your posts and especially this last one is ignorant, arrogant and hypocritical then so be it. it's far nicer than how you've treated most. You call your attacks just opinion and critism, but my refusal to accept it is a personal attack? - lol

You fell off the high road a long time ago, but keep believeing what you like.
You constantly belittle the league, teams and their staffs along with some posters here. constant bashing and ridicule is not located on the high road.

I explained it before I began, I had always been nice to you and tried to carry on a civil conversation to no avail.

I have NEVER questioned the heart of ANY PLAYER. The fact is that the awards are not handed out by the Players. The awards are handed out by a league who is desparately trying to gain legitimacy. The athletes and coaches are not the problem....Never have been.

You want to drag players and coaches into this post? Why? Are you worried that your rationale needs the help?

I will go on the record RIGHT HERE......Trifecta applauds and respects ALL PLAYERS AND COACHES in the SIFL.

I don't buy that explaination. Making fun of rings, awards, trophies, and throwing out a demeaning statement that all they deserve is a "participation ribbon" is attacking the players and their heart, and efforts. That my friend is directed at more than the business people in the league you disagree with. Many players read this forum but don't post and have told me many times they take your attitude as a personal attack.

remember what you've said in the past, it's not always about what you said or did, but about the perception of others and the affect on them.

My rationale doesn't need bloated lies and twists. I took it personal you attacked them and so have many players, I can't overlook it anymore.

Sure, try to apologize to them now but it's too late. Your attitude and inferred remarks about them have already sunk in.

Caballo, I am sorry I am not one of your 5 people that obeys your command for respect as the ultimate fan. I have given you props in the past but NO MORE.
Talk about poor rationale. To my knowledge no one obeys my commands. There are many that agree with some of my opinion and many that don't. because someone agrees with a person or scolds another for being a jerk is all part of forum life, it has nothing to do with obeying. I keep forgetting that you're the only one allowed to voice an opinion.

I'm doing the exact same thing you have given me props for in the past, defending the integrity of people you feel the need to bash. I could care less about who agrees or disagrees with me or if a covert poster gives me props or smacks. It has no affect of my overall view of the large picture.

Talk about someone that needs to be banned?
Explain thais one please. You get bent out of shape because the other person wants you banned, now you do the same thing and it's ok? Please tell us all what I did to be banned?

You have finally made me see the light. The brow beating is something I really needed. The reminder that all the players seem to hate someone that has written on a messageboard has made it all clear now.

Wait....Maybe, just maybe I have been the motivator that has allowed the Turfcats to ROLL through the epic season and outlast all the others to make it to the championship game. Maybe the players are using my posts as bulletin board material.....If the Turfcats manage to win next week I should receive one of the CZ rings as I and not you were the fan who motivated the team the most.

No, Somehow I think you give me a little too much credit. I bet that the players dont waste their time reading my posts.

But if they do read my posts and it honestly gets them upset then we have bigger problems.

Caballo, Your wheels have come off.

WOW! You have really gotten personal. I have never seen this side of you.

I will remain on the high road.

Caballo, I am sorry I am not one of your 5 people that obeys your command for respect as the ultimate fan. I have given you props in the past but NO MORE.

Talk about someone that needs to be banned?

What about front office staff? Show some respect over here, trifecta ...

For the record, I am not "desperately" trying to gain legitamacy for myself or the SIFL. We're trying to go about in a professional manner.

Still waiting for that PM

Just a little FYI, the American Football League played with only 8 teams for 5 years. They expanded to 9, then 10 before they merged with the NFL.

An I am pretty sure that none of us can argue the legitimacy of the AFL...

Perhaps the front office and League office should spend less time responding to my posts and more time doing something more productive.

I can't believe that ya'll would spend so much time and effort in the few sentences that I write every few weeks.

once again you twist and stretch the words of others.
No one said the players hated you. But they don't like people bad mouthing them when the person won't even check out a free game to see for themselves before trashing them and their league.

It's ok for you to brow beat but others are supposed to not respond to your BS?

SIFL Recognizes Fans Of The Year
July 22, 2009 by Dan Ryan

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 22, 2009) – Appreciative of all the efforts and supports of each and every fan during its inaugural season, the Southern Indoor Football League today recognized an Austin Turfcat support and a group of ardent boosters from Houma, La., as its 2009 ``Fans Of The Year.’’

Steve Litaker aka Caballo Diablo, a long-time arena/indoor football supporter and Turfcat season ticket holder and The Knights of the Crawfish Table – the Houma Conquerors’ fan club – are the recipients of the award.

The Knights had representation at all six Conqueror road games this season and provided on of the sport’s best tailgate atmospheres (and food). They’ve also pitched in with gameday operations at home.

``The fans of Houma are absolutely awesome and are some of the best I’ve seen anywhere in any market with any team,” said SIFL President Thom Hager said. “I want the city of Houma to know how much we appreciate everything these fans have done, especially in the first year of operations. I’m excited about returning to Houma next season.’’

Litaker also provided assistance to the Turfcats with their gameday operations and has been one of the league’s strongest advocates on internet message boards to the point many users thought he was a member of the league staff or an alter ego of a league staff member.

``A start-up league like ours needs knowledgeable and passionate fans such as Steve,’’ said SIFL Director of Communications Dan Ryan. ``He’s been an excellent unofficial voice of the SIFL and has helped us tremendously. I’m looking forward to finally meeting him in person not to just to put a face and handshake to a user ID, but to show to the world that we are indeed two different people.’’

LA's Jones Named SIFL Lineman Of The Year; SIFL Names Fans Of The Year

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 22, 2009) - John Paul Jones of the Louisiana Swashbucklers has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's lineman of the year, it was announced today.

Voting was conducted among SIFL coaches, team front offices, league staff and a composite fan vote. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players. Jones received 12 out of possible 13 votes and was also voted by fans as the SIFL's defensive lineman of the year, outdistancing Austin's Kevin Earvine and Acadiana's Lanier Coleman.

Jones officially recorded 14 sacks and 19.5 tackles for loss in nine games (stats from two games are currently being reviewed) as he helped the Swashbucklers post a 11-1 record and a berth in Monday's SIFL championship game against the Austin Turfcats (10-2). He also forced five fumbles and recovered a safety.

What is the team limit a league has to start with to make it a legit league, IYHO ?

Was the AIFL a legit league? 6 teams the first season, two road teams.

Was the GLIFL a legit league? 6 teams the first season. one road team.

The Intense football league started with 6 teams, twice.

Is the CIFL a legit league now? Remember they only played with 8 teams this year, and one of those was a last minute replacement. Only 1 round of
play-offs before the championship.

The CFL only has 8 teams. Legit or not? Oh, the 97th Grey Cup is in November.

Where do you draw the line for a league being legit?

They even scheduled the NFL defending champs to play the first game against the "semi-Pro" Browns to prove their point. The NFL champs got their Butt's whooped. That semi-pro team went on to win the NFL Championship in their first season, they went to the NFL Title game in their first 6 years in the NFL and won 3 of those.

Only now are the AAFL detractors proven right. The Browns definitely are semi-pro. :-(

This is the 3rd different league in which I've been fortunate to have been selected "Fan of the Year." 2006 the AFL, 2008 the af2 and now the SIFL.
I'm honored and Humbled at the same time. There are so many great fans around the league that put out a huge effort to support the sport and deserve recognition and respect.

The joke's on you because it wasn't listed in the original article, go check out the SIFL site. I added it to iritate people like you and guess what, it worked - lol. Thanks for playing along. Johnny, tell him what he's won - lol

The 50 yard sport is out in the real world and if supposed fans like yourself would support it out there instead of just part time in here the game would be better off. Who reads the forums, press releases, and articles about the sport? The answer would be fans because the masses still reject it. More fans around the differing league know me as Diablo instead of my real name. Everyone on the various forums knows the name, some love me and some hate me, but they know who I am - lol. The article was about the SIFL wasn't it? The masses out in the supposed "Real World" don't know who Steve is either, so what's your point?

Don't be jealous because the Blizzard don't know who you are, that's more your fault than theirs.

Like I told him, the SIFL seems to be right on par with most of the early years of a league in the sport. It's funny how he talks about the people on the Iranian league boards (which does have some truth to it-lol) and then does the same thing here himself.

SIFL Names Coach and Offensive Player Of The Year

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 24, 2009) - Louisiana Swashbucklers wide receiver Marcus Wilridge has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's Offensive Player Of The Year, it was announced today.

Voting was conducted among SIFL coaches, team front offices, league staff and a composite fan vote. Teams were not allowed to vote for their own players. Wilridge was listed on ten of 15 ballots, while teammate Sammy Knight was on nine.

Wilridge posted 42 catches for 633 yards and a league-best 18 touchdowns as the Swashbucklers finished the regular season 10-1 and earned a berth in Monday's championship game against the Austin Turfcats.

He posted a pair of three touchdown games this season with highs of eight catches against Acadiana on June and 119 yards against Texas on June 29.

``Marcus came in the season prepared,'' said Swashbucklers coach Darnell Lee. ``He was in the best shape I've ever seen in him and he was on a mission the entire season.''

The SIFL league MVP will be announced Saturday.

Lee Named Coach Of The Year

LAKE CHARLES, La. (July 24, 2009) - Darnell Lee of the Louisiana Swashbucklers has been named the Southern Indoor Football League's Coach Of The Year, it was announced today (July 24, 2009).

Lee received seven of a possible 15 votes, while Chris Duliban of the Austin Turfcats received five and C.J. Maiden of the Houma Conquerors received three.

In fan voting, Lee outdistanced Duliban 37 percent to 29 percent.

Lee posted his 50th career coaching victory in Monday's 61-19 semifinal victory over the Houma Conquerors and has compiled a 50-9 mark in four seasons with the Swashbucklers, the last three ending with championship game appearances.

He was named Intense Football League Coach of The Year in 2006 and 2007.
