LAFAYETTE, La. (July 1, 2009) --Southern Indoor Football League Commissioner Dan J. Blum announced today, July 1, 2009, that he has fined Acadiana Mudbugs coach John Fourcade an undisclosed amount and issued an official reprimand for publicly criticizing game officials.

Fourcade’s comments appeared in Tuesday’s Lafayette Advertiser following the Mudbugs’ 50-40 loss to the Austin Turfcats.

``I am completely confident there will NOT be a repeat occurrence,’’ Blum said. ``The SIFL now considers this issue closed.’’
For the most part I have thought the officials have done a good job.
BUT:
During the game between Austin and Acadiana,
After the play a Turfcat player punted a ball into the rafters hitting a light fixture- NO FLAG- should this have been a delay of game penalty?
After Turfcat TD the Turfcat player kept the ball and placed it on the midfield stripe causing 2 footballs to be on the playing field during the PAT- NO FLAG-should this have been a delay of game penalty?
After a legal block on a Turfcat , a Turfcat player ran across the field to the Mudbug bench and attempted to confront the player- NO FLAG- should this have been an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. After a Turfcat TD the player ran 30 yards down the field and attempted to throw a football into the stands to some fans in the box seats across the field -NO FLAG Again ,maybe a delay of game.
3 of the calls could have made a difference in the game.
I will say, maybe I am wrong on this, please correct me if I am.
I have seen blown calls this year, but you have them everywhere, every league, all the time. The overall officiating I have seen has been good. But someone help me on this.

Every sport and every league at all levels have strict rules regarding front office personnel, coaching staffs, and even players making public negative comments about officiating. They are supposed to go through league channels and report things that concern them or they disagree with.

They all know loose lips will draw a fine.

I agree, most of the time the officiating is pretty good but must admit there have been times it frustrated me to say the least.

BUT:

I've seen similar actions in several leagues with no flag. They could have called delay of game if they felt it really did cause one. There are guys standing by with extra balls to give the official, it's common for balls to go into the stands or even just end up at the other end of the field. This shouldn't cause any delay. I suppose they could have also called unsportsmanship like conduct.

To me it's not a big deal but I hope coach Duliban got in his face and tolld him to reach around behind him, grab his ears and pull his head out of his @$$.

Sounds more like an officials error. We've all seen players run around after a score and do many different things with the ball. An official or ball boy should have been aware and removed it before they whistled the ball into play for the PAT.

After a legal block on a Turfcat , a Turfcat player ran across the field to the Mudbug bench and attempted to confront the player- NO FLAG- should this have been an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.
I wasn't there and didn't see it. I would need more details. Once again, we've all seen players push and shove after a play. Run over the the opposing bench to jaw a little and point fingers. If that's all it was, then no flag should have been thrown.

If it was more, possibly an unsportsmanship call. I've seen many players actually go over the line and nothing called.

I think this has happened in every single game played in Austin. A visiting player scores, intercepts, etc and runs to the area his friends/family are across the field and tosses them the ball. Sometimes they climb on the wall and wait for them to walk down from the cheap seats to get it.

no big deal at all.

If these were all called during every game it would be a long and slaow game - lol. They're all pretty common.

3 of the calls could have made a difference in the game.
Do you think an Austin fan or coach couls list some calls/non calls they felt could have changed the drive or game? If these were the worst you saw in the game I would say they had no affect and probably should not have been flagged.

Agreed.
There's always talk about the talent and level of play being so much greater in the Majors vs the Minors. Is the officiating in the Majors that much better than the Minors? I've been pretty upset over lots of calls in all 4 of the Major leagues. it is what it is and any of us can apply and try out if we like.
I prefer to sit in the stands and harass them then become one of them - haha

I always dog them, and since I sit on the wall actuall have conversations with them during the games. it's all in good fun and I usually have a few beers with them after the game. They aren't supposed to mingle with us heathen fans but we always find their vehicles and discuss the sport of officiating.

Reminds me of the time former Saints GM Jim Finks said...

"I'm not allowed to comment on crappy officiating". :D

haha, if we had a dollar for everytime an angry coach had to keep his mouth shut and bite his tongue we could own our own team - lol

Now owners like Mark Cuban can afford the fines, but even he finally said enough was enough and settled down.

The point in the game where the turfcat threw the ball in the air and hit a light should have been flagged.

An onside kick was touched by a turfcat before it reached the ten, and they recovered it.

To show that I am not biased, the officials were kind of ridiculous for both teams. For example, a called fumble by the turfcats, in my opinion, was BS.

The officials wernt very confident at half, I had the privilege of listening to one of their conversations.

When the turfcat went to the Mudbug bench, that should have been flagged as unsportsmanlike, in my opinion of course.

Overall, I was satisfied with the game despite officials, and it makes me grin when I think that we get to see these two teams play again hopefully in a few weeks.

Kemmie Lewis throws the football in the stands every time he intercepts a pass, and he gets flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct every time.

That was the first time I witnessed someone throw a football in the stands and have no foul called.

Funny it was the road team that got away with it lol.

He wasn't flagged in Austin for it. Every game a visitng player does this here and has never been flagged for tossing their ball into the stands to friends/family.

But just throwing it for the heck of it and to no one in particular is different.
in games I've been to it's common for players on both sides to throw ball into the stands. We've run short on balls because they do it so often.

I have never seen a player throw one in the stands, but i know it happens. there should be a penalty , or at least a fine for throwing the ball in the stands AFTER a play. punting the ball into the rafters after a play, that should have been a flag. it was 3rd down, and a flag would have kept the drive alive.
but thats all behind us now. we have three games, maybe 4 left. we will look to the future , not the past.

The Mudbug/TurfCat playoff game should be a great one and both teams are deserving of being there. Whoever wins it heads to lake charles for the Championsip game. I'll root for the winner of this game, not anything wrong with the `Bucs and I don't dislike them. I root for the underdogs most of the time.
