SIFL Names ``Players Of The Quarter"

LAKE CHARLES, La. (May 14, 2009) – The Southern Indoor Football League today (May 14, 2009) announced the winners of its “Player of the Quarter” award, naming two players each from the Acadiana Mudbugs and Austin Turfcats and one from the Louisiana Swashbucklers.

Voting was conducted among the league’s coaches and staff for performances during the first four weeks of the season.
Winners are as follows:

OFFENSE:
Bo Bartik, QB, Acadiana Mudbugs. The veteran indoor quarterback has led the Mudbugs to a 3-0 record by completing 55.4 percent of his passes with a touchdown/interception ratio of 11 to 4. His 173.3 yards per game and 180 yards of total offense per game lead the SIFL. Bartik was a unanimous choice in the voting.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Deron Ellis, QB, Austin; Freddie Harrison, QB, Louisiana; Omar Haughook, QB, Houma; Marcus Willridge, WR, Lousiana; Roland Hayes, RB, Texas.

DEFENSE:
Kevin Earvine, DL, Austin Turfcats and Kimmee Lewis, DB, Acadiana Mudbugs (tie). Earvine is the SIFL’s co-leader in sacks with three and sixth in tackles with 15. Lewis had three interceptions in the SIFL’s inaugural game and leads the league with six interceptions and 18.5 tackles.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Derrick Patterson, DB, Houma; Stephen Barrett, DB, Acadiana; Damien Huren, DB, Louisiana; Damon Richards, DB, Texas

LINEMAN:
John Paul Jones, DL, Louisiana Swashbucklers. Veteran has 14 tackles, 2.5 sacks and six tackles for loss for the Swashbucklers.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Joshua Sooter, Austin; Demon Benford, Austin; Charles Phillips, Houma; Mike Henry, Texas.

SPECIAL TEAMS:
Darrick Wallace, WR/KR ,Austin Turfcats. Wallace has two returns for TDs this season and is averaging 22.5 yards per attempt on kickoff returns.

HONORABLE MENTION:
Sammy Knight, Louisiana; Tommy Hebert, Louisiana; Chris Stropolo, Houma, Roman Gilmore, Texas.

The next “Player Of The Quarter” will cover weeks 5-7 of the season and will be announced Thursday, June 4.

Repeats: Jones,Lewis,Wallace Earn 2nd Hooters POTQ Award

Three repeat winners were among the Hooters Player of the Quarter, the Southern Indoor Football League announced Thursday, June 4.

John Paul Jones of the Louisiana Swashbucklers, Kimmie Lewis of the Acadiana Mudbugs and Darrick Wallace of the Austin Turfcats each garnered their second Hooters gift card after being selected by a panel of league coaches and staff. The first player of the quarter recognized play from weeks 1-4 of the SIFL’s inaugural season. Today’s announcement covers weeks 5-7.

Winners are as follows:

OFFENSE:
Alvin Bartie, QB, Louisiana Swashbucklers. Bartie has led the Bucs to three consecutive victories by throwing for 645 yards and 16 touchdowns, including a league-best seven in LA’s first victory over the Mudbugs.

Honorable Mention:
Deron Ellis, Austin; Bo Bartik, Acadiana; Anthony Parks, Acadiana; Gerald Landry, Houma, Miguel Tolon, Texas.

DEFENSE:
Kimmee Lewis, Acadiana Mudbugs. Despite two losses to the Swashbucklers, Lewis continued his pace of at least one interception in every game he’s played this season. He currently leads the SIFL with 8 picks and his average of 1.6 interceptions per game is the best in all four indoor football leagues.

Honorable Mention:
J.T. Turner, Austin; Davall Caesar, Houma; Damon Richards, Texas.

LINEMAN:
John Paul Jones, DL Louisiana Swashbucklers. Perhaps the SIFL’s most intimidating down linemen, Jones has registered a sack in all six LA games this season. He and Eddie White combined for five in a victory over Houma.

Honorable Mention:
Kevin Earvine, Austin; Lance Frenin, Louisiana; Mitch Craft, Acadiana.

SPECIAL TEAMS (Tie):
Tommy Hebert, K, Louisiana Swashbucklers and Darrick Wallace, KR, Austin Turfcats. Hebert has missed just two PATs in 43 attempts this and 9-15 on field goal attempts. He mad three in LA’s second victory over the Mudbugs last Saturday. Wallace returned two missed field goals touchdowns in a victory over Houma and has four returns for scores this season

Honorable Mention:
Sammy Knight, Louisiana; Chris Stropolo, Houma; Antonio Logan, Acadiana.

The next Hooters Players of The Quarter will cover weeks 8-10 and will be announced Thursday, June 25th.
