LEAGUE SETS DEADLINE FOR CANCELLATION OF SEASON
NLL
December 16, 2003

The National Lacrosse League Board of Governors by a unanimous vote of 10-0 established a deadline of December 18, 12:00 Noon, Eastern for the Professional Lacrosse Players Association to call off the strike and agree to play the 2003-04 season under the terms of the recently expired Collective Bargaining Agreement, until a new agreement is reahed. Failure by the Players' Association to meet the deadline will result in the cancellation of the 2003-04 season. Negotiations on a long term agreement between the league and the players' association will begin once the strike is called off.

"The inability to reach an acceptable long term agreement by both sides, the imminent start of the season and the long term business ramifications of canceling games gives the league no option but to cancel the season for business reasons," said Jim Jennings, Commissioner. "We remain hopeful that we can work with the Players' Association in reaching a long term Collective Bargaining Agreement that is fair to all parties."

The players have made one PR and business blunder after another and now many careers are in serious jepardy. It's bad enough that none of the players have any say on what the union does but now the union, (aka 10 players and their agent,) wants to have an annual CBA with the threat of a strike every year. Add this to the very real prospect that half the NLL franchises may not live to see the end of this strike.

It is a no-brainer that the players are right to ask for more money because they are paid so little dispite many teams drawing very well. However, the way they are carrying themselves is very hard to swallow and they look very arrogant and petty as a result.

If the union refuses a full rank and file member vote on the CBA then the players should cross the line and decertify the union because the PLPA is NOT looking out for their best intrests.
