Has anyone read the latest press release on the ABA website? WTF? I don't understand the direction or focus of this league. It can't get teams to show up for games in the United States, but it is sending a team to Mongolia for an exhibition game and clinics. I guess Joe is hoping to boost ratings on the international television stations that carry ABA games or Joe is looking to expand into foreign third world countries that have $10,000 for a franchise fee.

I can only pray that this release has something to do with today, but with this league you can never really be sure.

Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with April Fools Day. Joe just replied to me on the Yahoo messageboard. He says that Mongolia is a wonderful country and that a Mongolian businessman saw an ABA game and asked if the ABA would be willing to come to his country to play an exhibition game and run some clinics. He also says that he plans to put more information about Mongolia on the website so that we become better educated about the country.

It has finally happened... Joe went off the deep end.

I still vote for the Sidd Finch factor.

I googled the guy in the story, and his group, with no tangible results.

ABARedWhiteBlue,

What makes him any different than 50% of the ABA ownership groups? I still haven't found anything about HP Patterson other than his involvement in the NIFL.

Plus, I don't think Joe and/or Ricardo are smart enough to pull of this one. Who knows? I may be wrong.

Maybe that is where the ABA should be playing. They could travel by camel, lowering their travel expenses. They wouldn't have to play in high school gyms---just in tents in the Mongolian desert. And since owners tended to be nomads, they would fit right in with the Mongolian population.

The Mongolian Basketball Association does exist. I googled searched it. I don't know how legitimate the press release is, but I know the part about Stephanie Roach being the first African-American woman to own a professional sports franchise is totally bogus. Jeanne Scott of the CBA Michigan Mayhem holds the honor of being first. She has owned the Mayhem since December 2003.

I also remember seeing something on the History Channel about basketball being BIG in Mongolia. It was a program about Genghis Kahn and how present day Mongolians have maintained their expert horseback riding skills. The program also mentioned how many Mongolians have broken from tradition, hence the MBA.
