The National Rugby League USA plans to start a professional outdoor rugby league by the spring of 2010. [www.nrlus.com] The NRL USA plans to have eight teams--four in the East and four in the West. Franchises will soon be announced for Los Angeles, Philadelphia, New York, Denver, Jacksonville, Boston and two other locations to be named. The league will operate under a single-entity ownership model, similar to Major League Soccer.

Wish them well.
Now Jacksonville will be the JaxAxe of AmNRL yes? I think they will need some serious help from either the (UK) Super League or the (Australia) NRL or some guy/girl with incredibly deep pockets to make this thing work.
That being said USA Rugby is working on a true pro league for Rugby Union so it might come to pass that we have 2 leagues, 2 codes and 2 soon to be bankrupt leagues.
Again, I hope it works.

I didn't catch it, maybe I missed it: WHEN during the year would they play? EDIT: Found out, it's spring, with their final on Independence Day.
I hope it's legit. I'm not so sure. I prefer rugby union myself but I can tolerate a legit pro rugby league here.

From what I'm reading from the national rugby league site and other stories this is quite real.
I can GUESS the TV deal they are referring to is Versus, since the info fits.
That would be a great help to the UFL.
I could see this league in MLS venues in the future IF it takes off.

Was alerted to this story:

If it's a NBC network, IMO it would most likely be USA Network.
For the love of God, no. Does this league really want to be tied-in with the WWE? XFL anyone?
No, it needs to be on Versus where it would be taken seriously.

Well, posts on their site's message board are being deleted. Mainly, any one that asks why there's been no updates in two months when there's a story from mid-March claiming they almost have a TV deal wrapped up.
That kind of tactic reveals a lot in my opinion...

SUPPOSEDLY the league is going to have a "barnstorming" season this summer:

It'll be only slightly easier to believe if they'd update their website more than once than every 4 months.
