The End is near... (thanks to exit322 for tipping me off the End is near...)

The "Global Professional Basketball League" will be neither global, nor professional, nor really basketball, and not even really a credible league.

Good Lord. The one idiot who can make Joe Newman look good just decided to try to create a failing basketball league.
I'd ask if there were any suckers who would fall for Haines, but the ABA proves they exist. It's now a race to see whether Haines or Newman will pick their pockets first.

Going by memory here but..........................
I think Andrew Haines was involved with an ABA franchise in Hershey then the Maryland franchise.
BTW- I also think he posts on here under a non-descript screen name.

Funny things I noticed already:
1. Press releases that say 20 teams "nationwide." What a joke. "Global" my eye.
2. Press releases that say the league starts in December when the website FAQ says January.
3. This websites has ANY place for comments on their own site, and has Facebook and other sites to post comments. Wonder when I'll link to THIS video:
http://www.wncsport.com/badturf1.wmv
or maybe http://www.wncsport.com/badturf2.wmv
4. Haines' picture on weplay is the funniest of all. Picture of him with a caption of "Favorite sport: Basketball" when he has a MAHL hockey banner behind him.

To set the record straight, I do not own the league or any teams. In addition to basketball, my consulting company is working with 2 minor league baseball leagues, an indoor soccer league, and a racing series. The basketball league is a much more involved agreement though.
I'm not sure why you show that turf as if that was mine. The turf that I owned was very nice (Former Orlando Predators turf). I didn't own the team in Asheville or that turf.
I have made some bad decisions and I have had to live with them. I don't think I ever posted on here before (if I did it was over 5 years ago - before I started the AIFL). There has also a lot of good that has come out of the work we did.
My phone number is 888-303-1139 Ext 701 - Anyone is free to call me.

Good luck Andrew.
If you are an honest man who will run a business in an honest and upfront manner then you will be held in good regard on here.
Everyone has made a mistake (or 2, or 10, or 100).

I remember very clearly:
1. $240 in lost season tickets.
2. The promised "banquet room" for season ticket holders that never was (well, except for the opener, where EVERYBODY got food).
3. Never actually GETTING my season tickets.
4. Game 2 having people just handing out tickets. Nice to see my hard earned money wasn't wasted.
5. David Dix (the then GM). Ahhh...the memories: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carolina_Ghostriders
6. (The convicted criminal from Florida who does not deserve naming here) as the coach after week 1.
7. A lawsuit between you and Boyd.
8. Player uniforms not anywhere close to fitting. ("Mooooon River")
9. Hotels not getting paid, and sponsors screwed.
Nope, no culpability at all. That turf was so bad you should have shut the team down after week one for endangering players. BARE spots on the field was not your concern or responsibility?
How's that house that hockey team in your league tore to Hell, by the way?
What's the next league you'll start when this one folds? Baseball or indoor soccer?
And how can basketball be your favorite sport (as your "weplay" picture captioned) while you are in front of a MAHL banner?
Just TRY to bring a basketball team to Asheville or anywhere near here after your indoor football league disaster in the league YOU ran.
Not wishing you well at ALL. Far from it.

LOL! Haines IM'ed me wanting me to call him. And that I shouldn't hide behind a computer.
THAT'S FUNNY!!
EVERYBODY knows who I am here. It's no secret. It's Dennis Justice. You know, the one who was AT the Civic Center Commission meeting when you showed. The one who gave the league a glowing review to the local paper in an editorial before we found out it was run by clowns.
I would suggest he forever incinerate in a very warm place where the worm dieth not, but that's no fair to the worm.

I'm confused. So is Chris going from the vaporware USBA (which, in the current alleged schedule, has Birmingham playing both home and away on May 13, not that I believe either game will happen) to a league that has Andrew Haines involved?
This may be good for either or both leagues' credibility, but I'm starting to fear for Chris' credibility.

A sportswriter as your Director of Basketball Operations seems an odd fit. Shouldn't the Director of Basketball Operations be someone who has worked in Basketball Operations? I would think Basketball Operations involves scouting, signing, hiring coaches, getting workmen's comp policies together, equipment needs taken care of, finding referees, many detailed 'operations' like that.
Don't they already have a media guy?
Just asking.
As far as Andrew Haines, seen his name around here a lot but as Paul mentioned, I think we'd be hard pressed to find someone here who hasn't made a mistake or had a failure in his life.

and the worst team nickname in minor league sports (so far) for 2009 is...
NEW JERSEY BUSINESSMAN REALIZES DREAM
CANTON OH - As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, Reginald "Max" Green has been a pillar of his community serving in various positions with High School and Pop Warner Sports. Now "Max" Green can add professional basketball team owner to his resume as the new owner of the North Jersey Runnin' Regulators, members of the Global Professional Basketball League.
 Maybe, a name the team contest would help.

Logos aren't bad so far, but come on, no team should take a WNBA team name like "Liberty."
Runnin' Regulators? Are you kidding me? This goes right up there with the IRS at one time marketing an IRS 75th Anniversary commermenative coin. This is where changing the name would be a good idea. Even "Runners" would make more sense.

Yeah, gotta think some more brainstorming could have come up with something better. Maybe the Leaking Oil Gaskets... Slipping Transmissions... Detached U-Joints...
