The 2009 WBA schedule has been posted with only six teams. Palm Coast is now listed for 2010.

I have been to the WBA site I was just wondering if there was any new updates or news on the league and this year schedule and direction. I see that there are several teams. Are there any new ones that are joining? If someone can let us know on here what's up we would love to know.:)

Don't quote me on this, but I've heard that there are new teams in Memphis (old one disbanded), Nashville, Jacksonville, Atlanta area, and possibly another team or 2 in Central Florida. They will likely have an 8-team circuit this year.

Really Central Florida? Thats awesome I wonder if one of the teams is in Orlando? It would be great if its the team I have become a fan of the Florida Flight, but there website says the PBL so I doubt its them. I just wonder who in Central Florida is possibly playing. I guess I will have to find out if I can. Thanks for the update Wellington.

The Flight are not a part of any league. Their web site could say NBA on it. The Flight do not exist. There are not a team or an organization. They are a web site

I seen on the flight website, on the twitter board, that the WBA owner was trying to get him to join. The commish sent him a message. No doubt he could be in the WBA tomorrow if he wanted too. However, why would anyone want to get into minor league basketball now?

Hmmmmm??!!! Interesting!!! I think that would be great for them to get into a league and play and put all the naysayers to bed!!! Getting into the Minor Basketball circuit now is a great idea since the NBA is talking about a lockout starting in October of this year. Where would all those basketball fans go? college? high school? maybe!! But the minor league's YES!! So to me its a great Idea for the Flight and any other minor league teams to get in.

You may be right. However, I find it hard to believe the NBA is going to lose 100 of millions of dollars and minor league teams are going to turn a profit. I think people are just not going to games period right now. Many teams that have been solid in the past, like the Detroit Pistons, are 1/2 empty now.
In regards to the flight, I think the WBA is their only chance to break even. They will not be able to draw any superstars. If they went into the PBL they would be 0-how ever many games they play. In the WBA they could be a .500 team at a low cost. I cant find one positive of joining the PBL.

Well after NBA commisioner David Stern said that the NBA is slated to lose $400 million this year and the numbers rising beyond I think its safe to say that they will lockout. The players are just too greedy and even though the Owners have been paying to this point, there just has to be something done about it. Your right people aren't going to the games because those guys get paid too much and fans can't afford to take themselves to the games. Detroit is really bad, so is Indiana and about 10 others that are losing fans and $$$. The players union and the owners really don't see eye to eye on players salaries. The owners want to cut anywhere from 30%-50% of a players salary, including rookie salaries. With that being said I think the Minor league circuit should stand to benefit because why would you pay $50 a seat per game in the nosebleeds and in the minors you pay $10 a seat per game and get a better seat. I'm just saying. I have been hearing some things not so good coming from the PBL lately. Ready about a lawsuit and players not getting paid. And the fact that they are asking too much to join the league. For the Flight if the WBA is where they go I think its beneficial for them to play so that people see what they are all about. They have a great message I would love to see them succeed just with that approach even if they don't win a game. But I am confident they can be a good team, but we will have to wait and see. But its a good idea for them to get the exposure.
I agree with the above post The Flight can get started in the WBA and if all works out they can then make the jump to the PBL. Gat the team built get some games played and continue your marketing and we will see what the Lord will do. And yes I believe in Jesus

I'm sorry, but anyone who think minor leagues are going to pick up any fans because of a lockout are not thinking clearly. First of all, how many "decent" minor league teams have teams in areas that NBA teams are in? Secondly, the minor league scene in basketball id BELOW minor. Maybe a team or two will do better but the overall picture will stay the same.
Lets look at the Leagues.....WBA,IBL, CBL, and others are all spring leagues. People are going to baseball games to spend their entertainment dollars.
ABA is well the ABA and no one is going to see this league (however, if it had been run right, with the old ABA name connection they could have racked up)
PBL, if they are still around, do not have teams in the markets. Do you really believe NY fans are going to go to see Buffalo instead
The only one I see making any money might be the NBADL. Bottom line, minor league basketball could vanish and not many people would even notice.

I was thinking the same thing, but didn't know how to put it kindly. I also agree that fans just aren't coming to games. It's not about the players' salaries. It's beginning to sound like a cliche, but the economy is still awful. People are more concerned with putting food on the table than buying season ticket packages. There are always exceptions to a rule, but it's across the board. People aren't going to major league games and people aren't going to minor league games.

Sure they are. You're overstating the case. People are indeed still going to both major and minor league games. The attendance dropoff in the vast majority of places that have seen one isn't that big. What's hurt many more teams is a tightening of sponsorship dollars.

Yes, I'm overstating the case. However, teams like my favorite example (Gary Southshore Railcats) have reduced weekday and playoff ticket prices when they've never done this before. They set an attendance record last season, but those rates were reduced in a large part because of the economy.
...and yes, their sponsorships are down. The owner's law office business covered sponsorship of promotions that went without other sponsorship.
