View Full Version : Can the Raiders handle the Rage???
Currently the River City Rage are 3 - 0. They have WHOOPED the Sting twice and the Sting have beaten the Raiders.
Will the Raiders be able to hang with the Rage when that time comes?

THats a great question. Without a doubt the defense and the special teams can hang in there with them. Its the offense that I am worried about. But based on what I am hearing, that problem will be solved real quick.
You have to remember, this Raiders team almost beat SF with a terrible qb. SF put in a TD late in the game to make it seem not as close as it really was. It was a one score game the whole time. Fortune at Center worked great and allows Kalfelz to get back to a more natural tackle position. Fortune was a D3 All-American, I want to say twice. So it was nice to see him on the field this past weekend. There is a lot of depth on this team and just about all position. I think right now, it would be a solid game with River City with the Raiders just losing out, but with an addition within the next couple weeks, that could tip the scale in favor of the Raiders.
What a beast Eddie Bynes is, wow!

Ahhh ...I see you have dropped a hint on what the near future holds. I wont push any further, but will wait to be pleasantly surprised.
I will make sure I am present at Blue Cross when it is time for the River City game. That will be some great football.

Are offense lost everyone other than Chris carter and Jamil Porter in its skill positions. Losing Mike Mikoliachek, Moe jackson, Noah Fahrenback on offense will take time to get it moving;however, we feel good about the future. The league has some great teams, right now at 1-2 ,we are not one of them....yet. lol

Mo Jackson being back will be great, not sure who will get him the ball when they play a real defense. I can think of one who would fit nicely and since a close friend of his is now on the team would be a good fit. As far as the rest of the team they are right there with anyone, defense is outstanding, special teams have been good, coverage against SF was a little weak, but they have seemed to fixed that. The coaching staff is still one of the best, week one Eddie seemed a little tenative to throw the ball and with that kid at QB I cannot blame him. That seemed to change last week, although again, it was Muskegon. Bob will do the right thing with this team, there is no doubt in my mind.

I will never understand why an owner would want to post here. It really makes no sense to me.
You think Omar is the answer because of the Muskegon game? OK, time will tell. I wont even comment, I wont need to, we will see over the next few weeks. I think he made good decisions and spread the ball around, although against a less than stellar defense. Again, time will tell. There must be a reason why Perry Patterson is being looked at, please don't say as a backup, HE IS UNHAPPY AS A BACKUP, so no reason to think he would be happy to come here and be a backup.

Mac,
Even if you leave Omar as the # 1, the team has only one QB. You must know that isn't sound mgmt. You can't go through the entire season with 1 QB and cross your fingers.

I think Omar is a good back-up. He is respectful when being coached, he is quick and is mobile.
The problem that he has ALWAYS had in Indoor Football (in my eyes) is that he Flushes out way to quick...So in scouting him, if a team uses their best two D-ends alternating them on one side all night consistantly... Omar begins to run EVERY Play and that is especially bad because he is only good running to the left! In 8 Man ball that can really throw off an offense by everyone crashing on his first move, which is to run.
Rochester will be around for awhile, that is what I like about them. The ownership has highs and lows (same as any MINOR league team) Indoor would not be the same without them! I always get a good laugh out of Dave's comments and Josh (exit) is usually trying to up peoples knowledge...Isn't that what keeps this fun??
Gotta throw a shoutout to my: www.okcyarddawgz.com and to the great start on the season...

Thanks Championbuilder. We do his name is Perry Patterson. He played very well. Exit just so you know we had 5400 non inflated fans at the game.Bynes had 4 sacks and 12 qb pressures. I hate to say I told you so, but ... I TOLD YOU SO! Patterson is the real deal. Abilene had to let him go to make room for QC. But honestly, they could've gone either way. Good job Rochester for giving this kid a shot. He will deliver.

Perry did very well last night. Moves very well in the pocket to buy some extra time. Was late on a couple throws and tended to lock onto his receivers just a bit, but he even admited after the game he still needed to work on a few things. Perry Patterson, what a great idea to go out and get him :)
The raiders team last night looked like the Raiders I have gotten used too. A solid offense and an out of this world defense. River City did not even give rochester a chance on special teams, they kicked it out of bounds and was willing to give it to them at the 20 every time but once. And what did rochester do, return it past mid field.
All round great effort by everyone. It was nice to see Mo slowly worked back in. I really like the make up of this team right now. You win in the trenches and thats this teams strength's right now. The offensive line with Kenton, Fortune, and Nguti was fantastic last night.

It's a good start. But by having to keep coming on here every time you get something right to go "nyah nyah Exit, we're smarter than you," you're still missing the forest through the trees. One game where things come together and you fill up half your arena isn't going to change what is four years of trends.
Averaging 5700 or so, though, will.

What a spin by saying half are arena. We have a capacity of 11,500. No one is even close to that. Wow,lets sell out stadium of 1750 thats better. My point involves your obvious instigating nature, which does make me laugh, but more importantly, your slants of stupidity. Here is an s.a.t question for you. Team A is always in a better position there. Costs are almost always less in the smaller arenas, and most of the time in smaller places, if a team's going to fill it up they get cuts on concessions, too. At worst, Team A's going to be in an equal financial position after expenses as Team B with that kind of attendance.
You're still missing the forest through the trees. You had one well-attended game. That's not a trend. That well-attended game probably put your season average over 2,500, which is still highly mediocre, and well below the 4,800 that Sioux Falls team is averaging with their constant arena sellouts.
Besides, you're in the worst division in the IFL. You'll have to beat someone with an actual shot at winning the IFL title before anyone considers you a contender. And Maryland this week ain't it, either.
Darn it! I missed the game. :(:(
I guess I'll have to catch it on Time Warner on Demand.
I guess the team is back to true Raider form.

I was presently surprised by the crowd. It was so long since the Raiders played at home, I was expecting an "out of site, out of mind" kind of crowd. I want to say a lot of it has to do with a Syracuse QB being the mean behind the center now. Perry is a guy that a lot of the fans here watched at Syracuse for a long time. yes and no. No one here in Rochester gives a damn whether we are playing River City, Muskegon, or Maryland. So whether it's River City or Rock River, it doesn't matter to the fans of Rochester. What matters is that Rochester has some players that the area can identify with again. Like having Nguti is huge, right after an article about him having a workout with the Giants, he gets signed by the Raiders. Fantastic pick up too. Having guys like Kohn, Manning, Mager, was getting the raiders away from what made them loved. Home grown people from this area taking on the rest of the world. The best crowds we had was in the beginning of the championship year, before the Armory owners took all the bleechers away, and that team was just about all home grown. Thats what people want to see, how our Western, NY kids stack up against the rest. That is what Dave put all his blood, sweat, and tears into getting going, building up our home grown football players and giving them a chance to compete at a high level.

Yeah, that's the issue with indoor football - very rarely are long-term rivalries established.
Sioux Falls/Sioux City/Omaha/Billings - long-term rivalry.
Wyoming and Billings fans would love those two to be back in the same league.
Rochester and Port Huron was on its way until the Pirates ran out of cash.
Beyond that, there's not much. So the local players are even more important, as duce noted.
So is treating fans well, but we don't need to put too much on your plate at once.

back to hibernation for some. I was at the game, I went to DC to visit a friend and we decided to go to the game since it was not that long of a drive, and i was embarrassed. I was telling him how we lost the first matchup but this team was starting to turn the corner. And then to get a lack luster performance like that. I saw players sitting down, not caring. Chris Carter was trying to get the guys up and wake up but they just would not respond. I saw an emotionless team that looked like they just didn't care whether they won or lost. I have no idea why that could be. The first offensive play of the game Patterson connected on a bomb for a touchdown on a perfect pass. That should have gotten them going right away but it didn't. I really dont know who to blame for this loss.

Will Porter be playing in tomorrow's game against Saginaw? Whereas Joyner appeared to fill the role against River City, I think Porter was sorely missed against Maryland. I hope at least that Porter comes back before we play Maryland at home (and I expect we'll need him against Fairbanks, too). I am definitely looking forward Maryland at home. I hope the game tomorrow goes as records and home-field advantage will suggest. Optimistic for a good clean fun game - to set things up before the big Alaska trip and then Maryland around the corner. With so many byes early, this team has a great opportunity to prove itself still.
First goal - secure third place over Saginaw for the playoff berth. Work for tomorrow night …

Greetings all. Apparently Saginaw has indeed fallen apart since they beat the Raiders out there. I'm pleased and impressed with Patterson's play for Rochester and Gano showed some good signs running for Rochester.
What I noticed most of all on Saturday, though, was missing players. Porter is still gone, and Mo Jackson, who was back for River City, and apparently two plays against Maryland, is now gone again. Eddie Bynes, who was even mentioned by name in the newspaper article before the game, was also absent.
Will any of these players be traveling to Fairbanks, or even around for the home game against Maryland (or traveling to El Paso for that matter)? I think if we have them and they are in playing shape (having practiced with the team &c), we should have a shot in all three of those games. If not, I think we're likely to lose all three. If we have some . . . could go either way. I hope we do get the talentful version of this team on the field again soon. With it - I think the Raiders have a shot at winning a first playoff game, and maybe even hosting it. Without it, they'll make it in by virtue of being better than Saginaw and Muskegon, but then get shoved out as easily as they got in.
Excited to see as things unfold, and I hope to hear more about the status of these key players ...
