Well, our run is over. After a 121-87 quarterfinals victory over the Knoxville Thunderbolts we lost in the semifinals of the ABA Championship Finals 107-89 to an excellent team from Kentucky, the Kentucky Bisons.

After playing an excellent first half against the Bisons we just ran into a wall in the second half that could be attributed to a number of things. That said, I'm not one to make excuses for losing and the biggest factor was the Bisons themselves and their great will to win. They showed that against Beijing in the quarterfinals coming from 13 down in the final three minutes to squeak out a 106-104 victory. They just outplayed us in the second half of our game to gain an opportunity to win the ABA Championship on Sunday night vs the Maywood Buzz, who defeated the Nashville Broncs in the other semifinals game on Thursday in Nashville, TN.

I will not let us not winning the ABA Championship this season damper what we accomplished with our Southeast Texas Mustangs during the 2008-09 basketball season. We finished with a 27-2 record, won the South Division of the ABA, won 25 straight games dating from December 12, 2008 to March 19, 2009 (second longest streak in ABA history & one of the longest winning streaks in all of basketball history in any league), and truly had one of the best teams to ever play professional basketball on this level. In a short period of time we have built the Franchise that now "SETS A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE" for ALL others to follow on this level of Professional Basketball in the USA. So yes, I'm very proud of what we accomplished this season and for what we will accomplish in the future...

I wish the Kentucky Bisons and Maywood Buzz well in the ABA Championship Finals this Sunday night in Nashville, TN. We here in Southeast Texas with our Mustangs will go to work on Monday getting ready for next season with the goal of playing for and Winning a Championship next season for our Southeast Texas Mustangs Professional Basketball Franchise! "GO MUSTANGS!!!"

Still trying to figure out what "this level" means....

This year's ABA probably operated at the lowest possible level that could ever be imagined so I guess that you can't disagree with the comments above...I would say that "SETS A STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE" is a little bit ambiguous as well...but I guess you could say that they set a standard of excellence at the lowest possible level that could ever be imagined...so, once again, I can't disagree... Congratulations Mustangs!

Fairly classy for the ABA.
