This is what I like to see ...

A former ABA owner making the right decision to move in a different direction!

Now, if only the other California owners would be smart enough to follow OC's lead.

I'm looking forward to going to a few games. I'll take some pictures and try and get more info about O.C. Gladiators

The Santa Barbara Breakers are in the league, and they seem to be doing things the right way as well.

I plan on following this league since the San Diego Wildcats are gone, and I don't live but an hour form where O.C. will be playing. Hopefully this will go well and all games will get played, and S.B. wont blow everyone out.

Stay tuned the W.C.B.L. starts soon

I assume you did, since you are the team's owner.

From a message board posting dated 1/23/07:
Hello to all,

I am the owner of the OC Gladiators starting play in Noember of 2007. I have heard and read about the many pit falls with the league. I also see a number of positives. I made the leap of faith with the understanding it will take several years before any profits can be realized and have the finances to do so as I am a fan as well. I am the only owner of our team and feel we are off on the right foot. I would welcome any support for the team.

This board is interesting and gives me some added perspective from people who follow the league. I will continue to use it to keep informed and welcome any responses or feedback.

Thanks,
David R. Clarke

DClarke69 - I think we'd all be interested to hear your thoughts on the ABA and the WCBL. Are you guys coming back to the ABA, is the WCBL something that can take off, any major success'es you guys had?

This thread has a definite Corning-like feel to it (ABA06/CorningTaxPayer/etc. with self-serving postings)

The ABA is a disaster as you all know. It kills teams that do the right thing the most and rewards the slouches. The WCBL is doing things right by building slowly and keeping a tight geographical circle. Spring ball also has a lot of advantages. Fall minor league ball is dead as all NBDL teams will be owned by the NBA soon and the model will mirror MLB. You already see it happening and I was told Anaheim here in the OC was taken over.

We are marketing to a few local communities and looking to build to a consistent draw of 500 or more over the next year or two. I think we will be at 250-300 this year and were at 150 last year. My interest in the team is that it is a great platform to network and expose some of my other business interests while giving people down here a place to bring their kids and watch some good ball at low prices. The 9 year old that comes to our games does not really view our player much different than an NBA guy when our guy is hitting a few threes from 25 feet or throwing down a jam and that 9 year old is 7 rows from the floor. The experience works. Owners just can't take themselves or what they are doing to seriously from a BBall point of view. I am not trying to be the next Mark Cuban.

It takes 3 years to build the brand right, really get good sponsors, grow revenue streams and develop a fan base. We are in year 2. Come out and check us out and I think you will see that we are trying to do things the right way and our intentions are good.

You have my support. I'm planning on being there for opening tip off. I have about 5 others coming with me and were planning on bringing our kids. If there is anything I can do to help get the word out let me know. I'll talk it up here in San Diego County until we get a team in the WCBL.

DC - You hit the nail on the head. The ABA rewards slouches and makes life harder for the good teams.

Good luck with the OC Gladiators.

Self-promoting sock puppet??

I prefer, Sock Monkey :D

No worries, no hard fealings, I would say the same thing if someone was putting up some of the post that I have put up recently. I have not been hired by anyone in the O.C. group to promote the team, I just decided to get on board myself and help out.

If you look at some of my other post and threads I was all over the San Diego Wildcats, but when they folded I was bumed. So I startd looking to see if there was another league and team to give props to. Thats when I found out about the W.C.B.L.

Carlsbad Beachdogs was the team I was going to root for, but they were not going to be playing, so O.C. was the next closest to my home and I want to take my son and some friends to a few games AND NOT HAVE TO PAY A TON FOR TICKETS!!

Sorry, Mr Clark for not asking you first before putting stuff on here, but when I like what I see I want to share it with others. I will stop by and talk with you when I come to the game and introduce myself.

Thanks for the new on line name, I just might change it to Sock Monkey:lol:

Oh, by the way abaredwhiteandblue, I always enjoy reading your posts and I hope I didn't come across, to excited. I'll try and ramp it back some.

I know that bugs, I would like to see more info on the other teams, but, it just hasen't happened yet. I would send an e-mail to the league and see what they say. The last time I tried getting more info I was told it was coming soon. We shall see.
