WOW!
Looks like someones PMSing.
Don't hate on people because they're active and promoting the sport.
Very important in this economic climate and even more-so for an expansion team.
Check the "View" count, looks like some are interested, sorry there's not as much posted about your team.
The threads are clearly marked, feel free to avoid the ones that supposedly don't interest you. No one forced you in here or to type.:o

NOTABLE PLAYERS
Derrick Wallace This speedy receiver and return man played for Doug Williams at Grambling State University. He has extensive indoor football experience and he has played on the af2 level.
Kelly Hancock He plays on both sides of the ball with quarterback and linebacker experience. He is a former Austin Wrangler of the af2.
Keith Clay This running back/wide receiver is a Nichols State product and played af2 with the Austin Wranglers. He also has played for the former Centex Barracudas of the Intense Football League.
Iran Hodge He rejoined with the teams Vice-President/General Manager as both were with former division champions with the Katy Copperheads.
The team expects to sign several more players in the next few weeks and is preparing for their mini-camp slated to start in mid-March.
These players will set the tone for this team and leave their footprint on this franchise, Oswalt said. We have spent extensive time on this roster and we are only about halfway there, this next month will be a building process.
Head Coach Chris Duliban, is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities of competing in the Southern Indoor Football League and helping the Austin Turfcats achieve their goal of having a championship season this year.
Duliban added, The team is coming together and there is no lack of talent here in Central Texas, the players are in good shape and are ready to get their gear and start hitting each other.

This is a unique approach....Concentrate on all things OUTSIDE of Austin. It seems like most of the speaking engagements and sponsors are from the San Marcos area. Maybe that is the magic bullet to marketing pro sports in Austin.....Forget about Austin and go after the outlying areas.
Putting everything in press release form may diminish the effectiveness of a press release....I mean was the appointment of a team chaplain really News?
At the end of the day the product will stand on it's own. Unfortunately the venue is not condusive for NON Rodeo events. No matter how you slice it...folks have a conception of the Expo center....And it is not POSITIVE.
I will give the team a chance to earn my business but I already am hesitant to walking back into the barn to watch a sporting event.
My question would be is why is this team and its ownership any different from the many indoor/arena teams-leagues that have blown through Austin.

There is a reason that San marcos is being courted heavily, but I'll leave the reasons for someone else to explain if they deem it necessary.

When press releases are sent out to the media they can dress them up however their writers feel necessary. Me, I'm a copy and paste kinda guy - lol. This is Austin and Minor league sports, it's tough to get any of the media to even mention there's a team in town besides the Texas Longhorns.
ANY time you can get your name out in front of the masses it's a step in the right direction. Sometimes the content doesn't matter, but others are glad to hear all names associated with the building of the franchise.

I agree to a an extent, I'm not real fond of the venue but...........
I have raced four wheel drive trucks in the building, you had better be ready to stand on the brakes before hitting the rodeo chutes - lol. I enjoyed the Ice Bats for a decade in the building. Once they closed off the top and enclosed the building and added heating and A/C it did get better.
I will give the team a chance to earn my business but I already am hesitant to walking back into the barn to watch a sporting event.
It'll be a closer walk than the Erwin center as you trudged up the steep hill.
Unless you got into the VIP lot where the tailgates were.
My question would be is why is this team and its ownership any different from the many indoor/arena teams-leagues that have blown through Austin.
The economy will be the biggest hurdle.
Umm, let's see.............
Cost of arena - the way too large Frank Erwin center owned by the pious UT versus the Travis County Expo Center. Tons of savings here.
AFL salary cap of 1.9 mil vs Indoor salaries (similar to af2) but once again that over priced arena rears it's ugly head again. It was the only one in the Austin area that met the arena leagues requirements.
The AFL wasn't a bus league and travel was expensive, (see suspended season), the af2 was a bus league. I'm going to throw the players in the back of my truck and take them to road games. - haha
Come on out and join us, it's gonna be a blast !
Affordable entertainment, were you a ticket holder for the Wranglers? I was every year they existed and the tickets didn't come cheap. The Turfcats you can get season tickets for $4.12 per seat per game. How many other forms of entertainment can you find in the Austin area for that price?

Nope, just a fan:-D
I'll be tailgating somewhere, stop by and say hey!
Not sure where yet, I was hoping to be able to set up in front of the banquet Hall (#6 on the map) in the lot between #6 and #7.

I've lived in Austin for 30 years and have never heard anyone call it Luedecke Arena - lol - it's all just called the Travis County Expo center.

Thanks for the Info.
Both of these guys are listed as being with the af2 Wranglers and I don't think so. I've got a list of every player that was assigned to the team and they're not on it. Possibly they went to tryouts, but were never actually on the team??? 2008 was the only year for the af2 Wranglers, they were AFL 2004 - 2007. Were they boosting their resume on the tryout paperwork?
Complete all time roster whether they made the active squad or not

Turfcats snag former Avenger in hunt for championship
Austin, TX The Austin Turfcats signed former Los Angeles Avenger Robert Quiroga over the weekend.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 210 lbs. wide receiver and kick returner will play in the Turfcats inaugural season starting April 18.
Quiroga is a threat anytime he gets near the ball, said Turfcats General Manager and Vice President Ronald Oswalt. He is an extra weapon in arsenal to ensure that we are the fastest game on the turf.
Following the 2004 NFL Draft, Quiroga signed with the Baltimore Ravens and participated in their training camp.
Quiroga, a two-way player who spends most of his time on defense at jack linebacker, spent the last three seasons with the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League. He saw most of his time on offense when the Avengers where inside the opponents 10 yard line. Ten of Quirogas first 17 catches in 2007 were for touchdowns.
A three-year starter at wide receiver for Baylor University in Waco, Texas, Quiroga caught 131 passes for 1,478 yards and nine touchdowns in 46 games for the Bears. He also returned 31 kickoffs for 752 yards and two touchdowns. As a senior in 2003, he caught 42 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns and was a first-team All-Big 12 Conference selection by both the Waco Tribune-Herald and the Dallas Morning News. Quiroga is one of only two players in Baylor history to record a 100-yard kickoff return. In 2003, he also became just the second player in Big 12 history to return two kickoffs for score in a single season.
This was one of the pieces we wanted for our run in 2009, Oswalt said. Coach (Chris) Duliban and I are so excited by the addition of Quiroga. He has great talent and will be a cornerstone for the level of talent the Southern Indoor Football League has to offer.
Quiroga attended Holmes High School in San Antonio, where he made first-team All-Greater San Antonio selection at both receiver and punter. He was listed among Texas Top 100 by the San Antonio Express-News and was an honorable mention all-state pick. Quiroga caught 51 passes for 1,061 yards and 18 touchdowns as a senior and also scored two rushing touchdowns and three on punt returns. In addition, he threw for a pair of touchdowns. A member of the Holmes track & field team, he also ran the anchor leg on the 1,600-meter relay team that captured the Class 5A state championship in 1999.

Warren Signs with Turfcats
Austin, TX – The Austin Turfcats announced today they have signed Jackie Warren to their team camp roster. The 6'3, 210 pound wide receiver brings a wealth of experience to the first year team on and off the field.
The Waco, Texas product started playing at Waco Midway High School in 1996 and received All-State honors. He played two years for the Division III, Hardin-Simmons Cowboys. He moved to the Canadian Football League in 2001 and played for the British Columbia Lions.
He has played with several other indoor and arena football teams; he had over 1,000 yards receiving and 30 Touchdowns in 2003 for the Oklahoma Crude in the National Indoor Football League. He also played for the Beaumont Drillers and the Amarillo Dusters of the Arena Football League 2. Warren also spent time with the San Angelo Stampede and the Frisco Thunder of the Intense Football League.
Last season Warren was a Head Coach in minor league football for the Corsicana Thunder.
Warren added, “I am ready to contribute to the Turfcats, Oswalt and Head Coach Chris Duliban are well organized and they seem committed to be a winner in year one. I want to be able to be a part of this championship level organization.”

Saying they're "identical" is a huge stretch. They certainly differ enough that Texas State shouldn't really be able to say anything.

The big difference is that Texas State supports the Turfcats and they don't sit a top an Ivory Tower.
I support UT's sports teams but their administration is full of over bloated egos. They feel what they want and think should over rule the interests of the city of Austin, it's surrounding areas, and the citizens.
Yes, the university is a big part of the Austin culture but not the only thing and the university isn't the dictator over the areas citizens. UT is very good at stepping on the little guy, both personally and business wise. They are very difficult to deal with. They screwed many over the rental/use of the Erwin center because they were the only venue that could hold certain events. I think the new Cedar park Arena will take quite a bit of events away from them. Them going after that restaurant was all BS blow and show, no way anyone was decieved that UT owned the business.
How come UT didn't go after Longhorn Disposal, they've got a similar picture of the Longhorn head on all of their commercial and residential dumpsters. They sit out by the road all the time. Maybe because Waste Management Corp is nation wide and big enough to tell then to stuff it?
There are no less than 85 companies in the Austin Phone Book called "Longhorn Something or Another", and many of them use the Longhorn sillouete.
There are two different Bevo ACC Bookstores in the Austin phone book, are they owned by UT ?
I'm all for protecting copyrights from shiester companies trying to fraudulenty use it pretending to be associated with the other company etc. but...............

WOW Shon Mitchell. The last I heard from him he was playing professional ball for the Houston Marshals of the Spring Football League (SFL) in 2000.

Shon Mithell??? Part of the Thunder and Lightning backfield of Ricky Williams and Shon Mitchell.
What has he been doing the last 13-14 years??? I know he played a little NFL Europe and some AF2 but what recently?
Is James Brown available at QB? He was actually a good AFL player.

Considering who the head coach is, I'm surprised he's not playing with the Turfcats. James Brown, along with Coach Duliban, made a playoff team out of the CenTex Barracudas last season and I believe took them past the first round.

You know how it goes, not much for kickers to do in camp so they use the spot to look at someone else and the kickers just hang around until it's time to play - lol
Supposedly James Brown wants to take season off.

Priest does have some injury history that he doesn't want to reinjure for basically free.
here's a little Shon Mitchell

Shon was a senior in 1996 so 34 sounds about right.
He transferred from Blinn Jr College and only played at Texas for 2 years.

Turfcats Bulk Up With former Austin Wrangler Barrett Dallmeyer
Austin, TX – The Austin Turfcats announced today the signing of tight end and defensive lineman Barrett Dallmeyer. Dallmeyer is a local Anderson High school product and former Austin Wrangler, he joins the team at 6'4, 265 pounds, and brings a wealth of indoor football experience to the first year squad in central Texas.
Dallmeyer finished up his second season in the af2 with the Austin Wranglers last season following a two-year stint in the intense football league where he played for the San Angelo Stampede. In 2006, Dallmeyer was named the IFL defensive lineman of the year coming on the heels of a season that saw him among the league leaders in tackles (40.5), sacks (3), and forced fumbles (3). He played college football at San Angelo State University and was a three-year letter winner in high school. Dallmeyer also played for Arkansas Twisters in 2006. He is known for his intensity on the football field as he routinely provided tremendous pressure on opposing quarterbacks. In 2007, Dallmeyer accounted for 15 unassisted tackles, ten assisted tackles, and 2.5 tackles for a loss.
The Austin Turfcats (1-1) return to action on May 9th versus the undefeated Louisiana Swashbucklers at Adfirmative.com Field at the Travis County Expo Center for a 6:30 p.m. kickoff.
