The Los Angeles Lakers picked up free agent Larry Turner on Wednesday. Turner is a 24-year old 6'11" center from Tennessee State. He played on the Laker Summer League squad in Las Vegas, averaging 7.4 ppg and 5.2 rpg.
In all likelihood, Turner is a camp invite with a make-good contract. With the roster essentially set (assuming no major trade emerges - and Kobe Bryant reports to training camp), Turner will have a difficult time making the regular season roster.
Anyone know anything else about this guy, i hear he's a beast.

If the guy pans out then that is exactly what they need to start competing with the top teams like Manchester and Rochester. Vermont has looked extremely thin up front all season. Hopefully for Heaves fans Turner can take them to the next level.

Saw this guy play on Sunday in Burlington at the Quebec game which was part of the Champlain Cup. He is an animal. He is the biggest, strongest guy the Heaves have ever had.

Finally official. This is good for Vermont since Manchester lost their big man, Gamble.

They lost 2 big guys but signed another...
"The 7'0 Gamble, who was leading the PBL in blocks at 3.9 per game, departed for a lucrative job in Qatar.
Aaron Spears was diagnosed with a minor meniscus tear (knee injury) that was suffered in the Millrats last game at Buffalo on February 21st. With only four weeks left in the season, a return to action was not likely.
The Millrats are pleased to announce the signing of 6'11 264lb Marc Mazur. Mazur will be in uniform for this weekend's games against the Frost Heaves and the Kebs."
