Just got wind of a news story at www.corussports.com/lbeq/nouveau_stade_baseball_dans-20090203-1397513.html

The article is in French but basically, the director of Baseball Quebec wants to build a stadium in Montreal that would be used as a training center. He's pushing hard for one and plans to talk to a government official.

He sees this stadium having 4000 to 5000 seats and cost $15 to $20 million. Part of the plan would be to use it for a Can-Am team.

He has talked to major leaguers and Montreal natives Éric Gagné and Russell Martin and they are willing to lend a hand and their names to help this cause.

One idea is to turn the old site used by the Montreal Impact soccer team (they now play in a new stadium) into a baseball stadium. The location would be ideal and is apparently available.

I think Montreal would be a great franchise for the Can Am League. I hope they can get it done. Ottowa, Montreal and Quebec would form a fantastic Canadian Triumvirate for the circuit. I wonder if there is any chance of getting a franchise in Connecticut? I wonder if there is any hope of New Haven returning? I think it would be good to have a CT or Rhode Island entry in the league too.

Welcome to the board Phil.

There is another thread here with plenty of comments about which cities would be good additions to the Can-Am,
www.oursportscentral.com/boards/showthread.php?t=12333

Connecticut is mentioned as I recall and there may be other threads.

As for Montreal, 2010 may be too soon as there are only *talks* of building a stadium. But at least, someone is talking about it. Do you realize that Quebec City, with one third Montreal's population, has more kids playing baseball?
