I guess Valera isn't returning to the Skyhawks because they just went out and got a vet. catcher from St. George. I'm not thrilled with this trade. You gave up a starting pitcher in Salvato who did very well in Sussex for a catcher in his mid thirties. Granted he has a good batting average but this isn't the Golden League. Also, why would Worcester place B.J. Weed on waivers? He did great for them, it must be a money thing.

I'm not ready to jump on the bandwagon. The last player with MLB experience, Big Walt was a bust. Other than being a fan favorite, he did nothing at the plate and wasn't liked in the clubhouse, probably thought he was better than everyone else. Walt came to the Skyhawks with pretty good stats but couldn't produce. The only good thing I see from this trade is having an experienced catcher for the pitching staff. Hope he doesn't have the 'Walt Attitude'.

I followed Wiki in the Golden League. Quite frankly his career is really on the down side. I see no upside with him. Not an impact player at this point and not a leader on the field. Not much of a positive influence in the clubhouse/dugout either. Go out and get a couple of good, hungry young kids who WANT to play and that will give 100% every night.

Do I sense a bit of Can Am superiority complex here? The Golden League is loaded with talent, is heavily scouted and has had among the most affiliated signings of any Indy League. The Golden League is very hot right now. A couple of years ago, this was not the case, but the league is truly GOLDen right now in terms of talent and guys heading for affilaited training camps.

I've been looking at the homepage for the Golden league and have to agree with you regarding the signings into affiliated baseball - have a lot more than the Can-Am league. The Golden league seems to have a lot more younger players and that is who gets signed. I wish they would update the transactions and have rosters up on the team's websites. It nice to follow ex-Can-am players.

As for Wiki, it seems that St George got the better end of the trade. They got a good young starting pitcher which it looks like they need (if you look at 2008 stats). Valera was a true leader in the clubhouse and on the field. It will be very difficult to replace that.
