SPLIT IN WEEK 16 SENDS HOGS TO THE BREAK IN SECOND

Week 16 Recap:
Taking on three of the top teams in the American Hockey League’s Western Conference, the Rockford IceHogs split a four game week during Week 16 of the 2008-09 and currently sit tied for second place in the West Division at the All-Star break. Rockford will begin the post All-Star break schedule with a seven game road swing starting on Thursday in Manitoba against the Moose.
Week 16 Results:
Monday, Jan. 19: Grand Rapids 1 vs. Rockford 2 OT
Tuesday, Jan. 20: Rockford 3 at Iowa 4
Friday, Jan. 23: Iowa 2 vs. Rockford 6
Saturday, Jan. 24: Milwaukee 4 vs. Rockford 2
Bacon Bits:
-Rockford had its third sellout of the season on Saturday, matching the total sellouts from the 2007-08 season.
-The IceHogs are now 4-1-0-2 against the Grand Rapids Griffins all-time after rebounding for an overtime win on Monday.
-It was the first overtime decision for the IceHogs in 2008-09 after nine straight shootout decisions.
-Rockford improved to 6-4 when tied after regulation this season.
-The Hogs were 4-4 in overtime and 10-10 when tied after regulation in 2007-08.

All-Star center Petri Kontiola broke out of a personal scoring slump during Week 16 notching a pair of multi-point games in helping the IceHogs split four games. Kontiola began the week with a goal and an assist in Rockford’s 2-1 overtime win over Grand Rapids. The center also chipped in two helpers on Friday as Rockford knocked off the Iowa Chops 6-2.
