I need some information. although i dont have the team name or the player involved in the case, i do that the details of a case that i am researching in a legal enviroment class. the details are as follows:
"smith"(not real name) was an established player in the NFL. he signed an agreement in 1980 to play for the USFL for three years beginning in 1981 for "team-x". (these dates may not be accurate, thats just the information my teacher gave me about the case and she said the names where changed so it would be harder to find information on the particular case.)
next "team-x" expierenced extreme financial difficulty, and lost its USFL franchise. "smith" then canceled his agreement with "team-x". "team-x" sued "smith" to recover the expenses they paid him for playing on there team (however, they lost there franchise before "smith" could play.)
i need to know what team this was on and who the player was.
any help would be great!

Billy Sims comes to mind as a possibility.no team folded before a player could play for them that I know of. The Gary Anderson case might be what you were looking for . He was a RB signed by the Tampa Bandits and at the same time had an NFL deal in the works. The court ruling favored Tampa Bay and he had to play for them in the USFL. I'll give it some more thought but no teams folded really until after 1985 when the whole league folded. Some teams merged with others prior to the 1985 season so the players went to those teams. Example AZ Wranglers & Okla Outlaws became Arizona Outlaws in 1985 and Michigan & Oakland merged players too, etc..........
Argovitz's whole thought was that he wanted a team that may not even have the need for a punter! He started by getting his man, Former NFL Coach of the Year, Jack Pardee, who coached 15 seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Redskins. Pardee, a defensive minded genius, was to be introduced to new offensive coordinator Darrel "Mouse" Davis and a newly termed offense called the "run and shoot". Argovitz wasn't done, he had anticipated providing Pardee with yet another weapon, Detroit Lions Superstar Billy Sims. He had already nicknamed his offense the "Superback Attack". A court decision, however, kept Sims in a Detroit uniform, but that didn't mean that the "Superback Attack" went by the boards.
