I just wanted to update the posters on the OSC site as to where the Carolina's Basketball League stands and our chances for a return this summer. We played and completed both the summer season of 2002 and 2003, we chose to take last season off due to the fact that we only had three teams guaranteed to be in with a month to go before the season was to tipoff. Right now, we find ourselves in the same boat but have three months before the season is to start. We have three independently owned teams in and they are all within a two hour drive of each other in the piedmont section of North Carolina. We would like to add a minimal of two more teams in order to proceed with the season. We are looking to place teams in towns that are geographically centered. Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee, Northern Georgia, Western South Carolina and even Southern Virginia are all viable locations. We have done quite a bit of preliminary research on various locales in this region and feel we could aid an owner in finding an ideal venue. It runs an owner from $30,000 - $50,000 per season to operate a team including; player stipends, housing, food allowance, insurance, refs, league dues etc. This price also includes a two day hands on training session for your marketing team from our league office. The return on investment can be as much as 50 - 100% if the team is marketed correctly and overhead is controlled. In the past our league has featured several ex ACC and NBA stars and has proven to be a launching pad for several players and coaches careers.

The league would run from June 1st - August 1st. We feel this is the best value in minor league sports for a single individual or a group of investors who wants to experience ownership of a professional basketball team without risking their life savings. We charge no franchise fees and keep our league dues to a minimum. I run this as a hobbyist rather than to make a living so the atmosphere we want to create is one of cooperation and trust with owners, players, and league office. Because of the location of the league, the time of season, the availability of marquee players and the hunger for basketball in the area we feel it can be a win win for fans and owners. Anyone having interest in possible ownership, feel free to contact me at 704-253-2006 or by email carolinasbb@yahoo.com We hope to have our website up and operational
very shortly. We are also collecting resumes and bios of possible coaches, front office people and players so if you would be interested in spending your summer in the Carolinas, contact us. We are especially interested in assistant GM's or assistant and head coaches of existing minor league teams that play in the winter season. We have found that these people with experience do best in our environment.

Really CBL, you find that people with experience in other basketball leagues do better in your environment? Wow, that's going out on a limb. First of all, should anyone trust a league who's commissioner has a yahoo website as their main form of contact? I mean, come on I can't just email DavidStern@yahoo.com
Also, why do you say you think this will be a win win for fans & owners when you have failed last season to get the teams you had the first season to come back to have more than three teams. If it's win win, where are they?
This sounds more like people picking sides for a Y-league pick up game more than anything and doesn't deserve time taken away from NBDL, CBA, etc.
Does this league have anything to do with the man 2nd only to Joe Newman for being insane in the basketball world, John Jordan? I have heard that after leaving or being ran out of South Dakota for stupidity he was down in the Carolinas after his XBA and IBA fiascos.

Why would Georgia, Tennessee, or Virginia have teams in the "Carolina's Basketball League?"

Guys this is purely a hobby for me, not a way of life. You are the ones who live for this stuff. Our league is meant to be a fun league. We could have pieced it together last season and played but it was not worth it. We will do it if we can do it right, otherwise we will not. I am not trying to generate big franchise fees or be Joe Newman or Meisenheimer or anyone else. I would just like to see it work and it certainly can with a just a few decent owners. Oh how quickly I forget the minor leaguers for life and their insanity over this. Relax, I am just passing through hoping to get my little summer league rolling, that is all. I have no interest in ever doing the minor league thing on a large scale ever again. I learned my lessons and the rewards are not worth the sacrifice on this level. I like the game itself and helping put together the best teams possible and then sitting back watching them battle. Again some of you want to hate on me but what chances have you ever took ?I admit I am a gambler and when you gamble you many times fail. I have had my share of success and failure as we all have, some of my losses have been more public than others but at least I keep showing up at the table. I just play on the five dollar tables now rather than with the big boys like you common sense and WNC. Don't sweat it, I ain't no threat. By the way Common Sense we are developing our website now and it will offer an email address that is more appealing however for the short team Yahoo does great. I love you brother, I am sorry you sing a song of hate.
