It's that time ...
For all those owners who have left the ABA, or are preparing for your exit from the ABA, before, during, or after the playoffs ...
And let's not forget all you expansion listed/unlisted ABA team owners ...
The State and Regional Leagues are ready for your telephone calls.
California, Texas, Kentucky, Georgia, Florida, Northwest, Northeast, Southeast, Coastal Atlantic, etc ...
And let's not forget our Canadian friends and their Local -> Regional -> National League(s).
How about that Carribe League getting started, but not associated with the ABA, of course!
The current ABA's time is over!
It's time to find a place where you and your organizations belong.
Enough of the unrealistic "ABA Dream" ... For everthing that seems to glitter Red White & Blue has proven itself not to be GOLD!
Come back to reality ... and find the league that will suit you best ... and can accomodate your operational $ account/budget.
The ABA has failed as a National Minor Basketball League, at all levels of the game ... And has had the most unsuited CEO for the job.
The League has no Financial Capital, Structure, Management, Mktg/Pr Engine ... You name it, the league doesn't have it; nor wants to go out and get it.
There's no Growth Factor for this league ... No Future Profit Gains or Returns on the horizon.
Will most likey never be a member of USA Basketball and FIBA.
It's a bust, and there's no government bail-out for you.
So, don't delay owners, get a head start, before the next season comes around and you don't have a place to play.
Don't let yourself get caught right back in the ABA (If it's still going to be around) ... X our fingers that it will not be!
By the way, You should have already been preparing for 2009-2010. (Ooops, that's not in the ABA's Guide to Success, is it?) Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha
Good Luck to you!
P.S. And don't worry about the ABA CEO thinks or says ... or will try to do (unsuccessfully)
He was never a winner when it came to Minor League Basketball to begin with. He couldn't even run his own ABA team in Indianapolis, Indiana.
What an Amateur!

I was taking a look at the ABA Standings over at USBasket ... http://www.usbasket.com/aba/basketball.asp
This league should not be up and operating what-so-ever
Minor League Basketball is suffering because of it.
Change is needed immediately ...
Say goodbye to the ABA today!

ABA adds Los Angeles Slam to expansion list
January 23, 2009

" ... The Los Angeles SLAM organization is looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with the ABA."
You might want to re-think, having made such a statement, when ALL the other California teams are possibly playing in an entire different basketball league next season.

This is one of the harmful effects on the players of today ...
The ABA is the leader in non-payment of negotiated player salary/wages, and the lowest per game wage, of any Minor League sports organization operating.
I have even heard, that one of the ABA teams, is having their players sell game day tickets, to make their wage, because ownership does not have the ability to make payroll.
This is not how to operate.
This is not professional.
The ABA CEO has been neglecting the players, far too long. [ No $ money, No Share, No National Sponsors, No Player PR, No Comprehensive Stats, No Professional Player Development, nothing ... ]
The ABA CEO sits in his basement all day, thinking of deals, all for the betterment of himself.
Wake up owners ... What has the ABA done for you and your organization today?

ABA Seeks to Expand the Pacific Northwest
January 15, 2009

Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) is interested in expanding into the Pacific Northwest for the 2009-2010 season.
I wonder what the IBL thinks about the ABA CEO trying to invade it's territory and recruit teams?

As stated in the E-mail from Chichester to his ABA refs,,,, the ABA saved the CBA.
As stated by Joe to owners on a conference call.... the ABA saved the CBA.
As stated by Joe to Potential ABA owners...The CBA recognized that we are the best league out there and the CBA may merge with us this summer.
Being that we all know, the ABA didn't save the CBA ...
And undoubtedly, there's not going to be a merger ...
What teams; who decide to leave the ABA; might be considered by the CBA, for league membership?
On a side note ... Looking at the ABA Teams List ... http://www.abalive.com/teams/ ... I think it's pretty funny that the ABA believes the Albany Patroons and the East Kentucky Miners are going to move to the ABA ... Ha Ha Ha Ha

ABA TO EXPAND TO COLLEGE PARK
12/22/2008 7:28 AM
http://www.abalive.com/headlines/index.html?article_id=144
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that it will add a team to College Park, GA next season. "We are extremely pleased to have Duane "Spyder" Hughes back in the ABA," said Joe Newman, ABA CEO.
Spyder, I can't believe you are going to make the same mistake twice
HOLD OFF Spyder, don't spend anymore $ on the ABA.
You have lost too much $ already, being associated with this league!
There's help on the way, coming soon to the Southeast ... Your organization and College Park will require something far more stable than the ABA will ever have to offer.
Why go from being considered a Professional, to being an Amateur = ABA?

These are the guys I have no sympathy for.
This dudes run out of money or shut it down last time and know what the heck is going on in this 3 ring circus..........THEN COME BACK!!! They come back again.
Its so counter intuitive its difficult to describe.
I have even heard, that one of the ABA teams, is having their players sell game day tickets, to make their wage, because ownership does not have the ability to make payroll.
To be fair, most minor league teams (except Triple A and the AHL) will pay the players a commission bonus for tix sold. Its not a hard sell just a way for a player to help and earn a couple of bucks. Every team will have 1 or 2 guys who will get into it and sell tix. The lower you go down the minor league ladder the more participation you get.
This is yet another indication that the ABA is simply the absolute bottom of the barrel, mariana trenched, end of the line, dead end of all minor leagues. Nobody should be forced to sell to GET THEIR WAGE. Ownership should be thrown out of the league.

Savannah ABA team plans trip to Bahamas
From Staff and Wire Reports | Monday, January 26, 2009 http://savannahnow.com/node/660566
Savannah's franchise in the minor-league American Basketball Association has announced a series of road exhibition games.
The Savannah team, projected by the league as an expansion club for the 2009-10 season next winter, is scheduled to face the ABA's Bahama All Pro Show on Feb. 20-21 in Tampa and March 6-7 in Nassau, Bahamas, said Savannah co-owner Mark Williams. The games start at 7:30 p.m., according to the Bahama squad's Web site.
Mark Williams said his brother, co-owner Levi Williams, will serve as interim coach, with a full-time head coach hired for next season. The Williams brothers, who played at Savannah State University, live near Atlanta in McDonough. The team plans to practice soon on alternate weekends in Savannah and Atlanta, Mark Williams said. For information, contact him at 404-668-9269.
It's good that Savannah is going to play some exhibition games ...
But that organization should look at an alternative to the ABA.
I'd try one of the Regional Basketball Leagues to start with, that plays during the Spring/Summer.
The ABA is going to kill your organization before it ever really gets moving.
A mention ... I wouldn't charge $ players a fee to tryout for your team.
The Bahama All Pro Show, is on an island. They need to get out of the ABA entirely. Why not just develop, promote and run a series of exciting Pro/Am tournaments on the island? Get involved with the island communities and develop a Basketball Academy. Have Minor League Teams come down to play exhibitions and enjoy the island. If The Show wants to play games on the mainland, play some games in Miami against some of the Florida Pro/AM teams. Forget this ABA stuff, it's not helping either the league or your organization ... You are not involved enough ???

The College Park Spyders might be heading in a positive direction ...
But the ABA is surely not.

Nashville Broncs owner says time is right for pro basketball here
http://www.tennessean.com/article/20090127/SPORTS11/901270356
Nashville has the opporuntity to become a very successful Minor League Basketball market ...
But not if they remain in the ABA.
The ABA is, no near, a professional basketball league.
So therefore, if Nashville wants to be about "Pro Basketball" , they need to consider finding another league to play in for next season ...
Hey Mr. Lumley, how about looking into one of the more competitive leagues around Minor League Basketball ???

ABA to return to Honolulu, Hawaii next season
January 28, 2009
http://www.oursportscentral.com/services/releases/?id=3770168
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the league will return to Honolulu, Hawaii next season. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, "We hope that the third time will be a charm. Both previous teams were well accepted, our mainland teams loved going there, but transportation was a problem. We finally have it worked out - and we are thrilled to be back there. What a wonderful mid-winter trip it will be for the visiting teams - a vacation in Hawaii - and what a great ownership group too - very professional, very experienced and very knowledgeable about pro basketball and the ABA."
Unbelievable ... How much false info can this Minor League, so-called executive, disseminate?
If I were an ABA team owner participating in 2009-2010 (Hopefully, the league will not be around) ... I wouldn't even think about putting Hawaii on my schedule!

Will the league pay for the airfare?
Will the team offer a special deal for the airfare?
Will prospective season ticket holders get their credit cards run up?
There has been some serious stuff being smoked at ABA headquarters.

Mustangs' ownership dispute one of few in ABA history
February, 6, 2009
http://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/local/mustangs__ownership_dispute_one_of_few_in_aba_hist ory_02-06-2009.html
ABA COO Joe Newman said the league has taken a stance in previous disputes and will do so once all the facts in this one are revealed.
The ABA CEO has never made a stance on behalf of the ABA; on any matter; regarding various issues and circumstances surrounding the league ...
Don't let him fool you.
"My understanding is that Jerry and Jason have been operating the team and that Jordan was going back to the Rio Grande Valley. From an ABA standpoint, ownership transferred to Jerry and Jason," Newman said.
The ABA CEO and the ABA have no legal say so, regarding "transfer of ownership." The business of individual teams is an internal matter.
Newman said from his Indianapolis office (His Basement) that he hadn't talked with Maswoswe in two months and thought he had returned to the Rio Grande Valley, the area from where Maswoswe moved the team in August 2008.
Here lies a huge problem with the ABA CEO and the ABA ...
The top executive has no idea what's happening; on a daily basis; within the league that is he is supposed to be presiding over.
The ABA CEO thought??? The ABA should know ...
Just furthers, what we all know is going on with the ABA ...
No one is running or managing this league right now!
And it's been going on since before the 2008-2009 season.
ABA ownership no longer recognizes that the ABA CEO has power of authority over the league ...
It's every team for itself!

Hey Coaches and Players ...
Have you had enough of the ABA!
Don't you think it's time for a good majority of you to take your trade somewhere else.
I think it might be a good idea.
This year, you have been apart of the worst season of any Minor League Sports association in the history of all sports.
You guys need to actually play in a league (not a "leaque") somewhere, which will add some credibility to your b'ball resumes.
Why continue to be associated with the ABA and live off the $1 menu at McDonald's ...
The season is over with for 82% of you ... Time to take action and find another league for 2009-2010!
