Another new team is set to start play, this being in Concord/Walnut Creek (CA).
I grew up about five minutes from there and this area cannot get fans for a good JC football team, or their high school basketball teams. (Although perennial football power De La Salle sells out.)
According to Mr. Newman, a venue has not been set, nor has there been an addition to the ABA website for this "team". It would be a good fit being just outside of San Francisco. My concern is would Damone Hale be able to get together BART and bus fare to get the Rumble to the East Bay?

Walnut Creek? Who's going to be playing for them, Ma and Pa Ingalls? Will Oleson's Mercantile have the concession stand? Will the dance team be known as the Half-Pints?
Sorry, I just could NOT pass that one up.

You are confusing "Walnut Grove" for "Walnut Creek", but hey maybe they can change the name of the city! Actually they have no idea what the ABA is anyway! Still funny though , the Half Pints ! lol jack
BTW Yes I have read the entire series by Laura Ingalls. jh

Yeah, Chuck missed the boat on that one. Chuckles, Walnut Creek is about 30 minutes from San Francisco and is not related to, nor is it an evil step sister to Walnut Grove.

Walnut Creek and the Bay Area is actually very nice. Walnut Grove is somewhere in the wilds of Minnesota with the Ripknees.
Actually that opening scene of little house where the girls come tumbling down the hill would be great in an ABA setting. It would represent owners financial situation.
Descending Descending Descending............boom. Bottom of hill
Joe would probably try and sell the blind Ingills sister a team then run off with Nelly Olsen..

Anybody remember the Little House on the Priarie episode where Albert is pen pals with the girl in the wheelchair? She claims to be on the basketball team at school, except the series is set at least 10 years before the game was even invented.
That's still more legitimate than most of what goes on in the ABA. :D
Which reminds me.... given the gimmick teams the ABA has tried, why not a team of blind basketball players? Here's Joe latest vision... The Seattle Sightless or the Baltimore Blind! :infun:
I sincerely apologize to those who have blind friends, family members, co-workers, are legally blind themselves or have ever made a blind bid in a poker game.

I am both proud and ashamed to say that I own all seasons of Little House on DVD.
I would say that the ABA is more like the episode where Mary and Laura are given the money to purchase Reverend Alden's "Thank You Bible" from the town of Walnute Grove.
Laura then takes the money, purchases some quack medicinal cures thinking she can easily triple her money and get a nicer bible, and ends up going broke.
They give Reverend Alden the empty box instead, but it being Little House everyone does that creepy laugh at the end.
In the ABA, it's only Joe who gets to laugh.
And what does our knowledge of Little House say of us collectively?

I'm still waiting for Joe Newman to announce an all-gay team in the ABA (NOT intended to be a homophobic slur-just reminded of that by the Bay Area's location-maybe the Rumble need a close rival?)

A team of all deaf people...the Hackensack Huh.
Minor League Man, remeber the movie "BASEketball"? They had a team in the league called the San Francisco Ferries, but wore pink uniforms.

I like the name "Sightless in Seattle" for the blind team in the NW.
or we could have a team of former ABA owners who went broke. The Chicago Chapter 11's or the Pittsburgh Penniless or Boston Bailouts. The problem is you'd probably have 20 blind or deaf guys to choose who could play hoops, the ABA former owners squad would consist of 200 people.

ABA adds Los Angeles Slam to expansion list
January 23, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Indianapolis, IN. The American Basketball Association (ABA) today announced that the well-known Los Angeles Slam professional basketball team has been added to its West Coast expansion. According to Joe Newman, ABA CEO, the LA Slam were originally set to begin play next season - but Coach Don had come a long way in developing his organization and team so they were added to the teams playing this season - and they have been very competitive, recently defeating the very powerful Beijing Aoshen Olympian. The Slam is a great addition to the ABA and Coach Don, the Head Coach and GM is a very special person indeed."
The team will be owned by Don Sanchies, a man with an extensive background in law enforcement having held the ranks of both detective and sergeant. He was also President/Founder of "City Security Academy" that specialized in training police officers and security officers for the State of California.
"I have coached basketball for over 30 years at various levels, including youth basketball, high school traveling teams, pro-am and now the ABA," stated Sanchies. "I am very excited about this great opportunity. I have extensive experience with building and marketing business on the internet; I have been Editor of several popular websites and have been interviewed by many national radio programs. The Los Angeles SLAM organization is looking forward to a long and lasting relationship with the ABA." For more information, email info@losangelesslam.com or visit www.losangelesslam.com or www.abalive.com.
They've already played more games than some of the ABA teams that have been in the league all year...

How many times has that happened over the years? A supposed future expansion team gets moved up less often than current expansion teams get moved back (and then to Mandyville), but it does happen.
