OK, the minor leagues are where new rules can generate intrerest, and owners should be willing to take a chance. How about these?

1) A shot made within the first eight seconds of a full shot clock cycle will be worth an extra point (three inside the arc, four outside). An offensive rebound gets only a ten second shot clock, no bonus point.

2) Eliminate the free throw. Fouled in act of shooting, team awarded number of points basket would have been worth. Fouls that previously resulted in a 1 and 1 for the offense...one point and maintain pocession. Offensive foul, defense gains pocession. Less fouling, more action.

3) Play to 100. No game clock. Eliminates garbage time to an extent and the endless cycle of fouling near the end of a game.

4) Three time outs per team, per game.

5) Time outs can only be called during dead ball (including after a made basket, before inbounding.) No more calling time out in mid-air or when in jeopardy to save pocession.

No claim that any of these are original...

Looks interesting. Also encouraging that they want to de-emphasize the free throw...but why not just award points for fouls?

A rule like 4-man or an 8 second bonus cycle could be the next 'three point' rule...and could make a league truly different.

Limiting the number of time outs in a minor league operation would limit the amount of revenue generating promotions. Cash is already too hard to come by to limit revenue producing promotions.

Cutting back on the FT: Why? It is the only uncontested shot in the game of basketball and professional athletes should be able to make 75%. However since we know that is not going to happen, rather than eliminate them, go back to the old NBA 3 to make 2 bonus rule. Or better yet, once a team enters the bonus, give them the FT and the ball.

Adding bonus points: Why tinker with a good game. If anything, lets get the rules on the same basis as the rest of the world. Use the FIBA rules including lane and 3 point line.

Point taken on the time outs. How about allowing each team three 30-second time outs, and then add in some well-placed official time-outs for promotions? At least it wouldn't take a half hour to play the last two minutes.

The free throw is a bore. I'm afraid your solution would leave us watching guys clang their way through even more free throws (three to make two? Y-A-W-N). I've heard a thousand times players "should" shoot free throws well, but some just don't. We're obcessed with making the Shaqs of the world learn to shoot free throws. Honestly, who cares? As long as teams can benefit from fouling, expect to see plenty of it. If the jump ball was eliminated, why can't the free throw ?

Like the three-pointer or not, it was tinkering. But it caught on, gave the ABA (the real ABA) something truly different. There is a hunger for the return of the fast break.

And when a whole world with the same rules ? In a lot of countries, basketball is not very considered because there is a "one league, one set of rules"
this is the only major sport with a lot of rules depending the owner of the league !!!
maybe it would be better to have ONE set of rules in the whole world
