Yesterday's news saw the new GM of the Turfcat make some bold statements.
1. He vows to restore the faith of the Austin Sports fan because they have been burned in the past..... (Let's play a few games OR even one game before you say that) I would not say anyone was burned in the past. Teams made a run and just did not receive enough traction in the community.
2. His only worry this season is that he might not have enough seats in his arena. WOW!! Might try to be a tad more realistic in your goal setting.
I will certainly attend a game as I always give local teams support but I would suggest being a little more realistic in these kind of statements.

Ease up T, - lol
It's called PR, would you prefer they say...................
It's going to be a long tough road especially in this economy. It's highly unlikely we'll actually be successfull since we all know the Austin community as a whole could care less about minor league sports.
There have been a couple of good options for football fans in the past but they wouldn't come out in big enough numbers and support the teams so why should I think we will be any different.
??????????????????????????????????
The business model of the SIFL should give them a better chance.
The AFL, which I love watching, is just way over priced. Every single team was losing money and now we find out the league itself was going down in a seas of red ink. Even if Mr. MacGregor had kept the AFL Wranglers in Austin they would be dark in 2009 just like the af2 Wranglers.
Why will the af2 team be dark, once again finances. The AFL teams can't afford arenas like the Erwin center let alone an af2 team. There's a possiblity they will come back at the new Cedar Park arena but don't hold your breath, there's a chance you might win the lottery also.
Doug has moved to Colorado, yes he owned several teams by long distance, just saying. Mr. Hicks hasn't shown much interest in purchasing them for an extra tenent in his new arena.
Back to the business model of the SIFL vs the Arena Teams.
Travis County Expo center vs the Frank Erwin Center, that alone is a huge step financially in the TurCats favor. Cheap tickets all around, that was a huge thing that upset the AFLWrangler fans. When they moved from the AFL to the af2 the fans didn't feel the ticket prices dropped comensurate with the product on the field. Doug didn't have many choices because of the price of the Arena lease. Attendance dropped from 10 to 11k down to 3 to 3.5k because the casual fans felt the dollar value for the entertainment was no longer a good deal.
3,000 fans in the 15,000 seat arena looked terrible. Could you imagine 3,000 fans in the Expo center - HOLY FREAKIN WOW !!. Ok, ok lets start out closer to 1,000 to 1,500. Still that's an upgrade on the atmosphere and home field advantage.
Just saying..............................:-D

A friend of mine gave me ten to one odds that the league misses games in the first season and three to one that at least one team folds before the end of season.
Is this normal for indoor football?

Is this normal for indoor football? IT is if you are a member of the CIFL

Unfortuneatly it's all to common for any business in this economy, even established ones. Layoffs and losses are running rampant world wide at the moment.
Then consider that this is a business run on discretionary income which has disappeared for most. Even the advertising budgets have shrunk and are typically determined by how many butts are in the seats. So everything revolves around convincing the masses that this is a good value on their entertainment dollar.
