Not sure how many of you have heard, but the UBL is basically done for.

"the seven teams in independent United League Baseball -- the Alexandria Aces, Amarillo Dillas, Brownsville Charros, Edinburg Coyotes, Laredo Broncos, San Angelo Colts, and Harlingen WhiteWings -- as well as the league itself are on the market and available for purchase..........the most likely outcome four teams being absorbed into the Golden Baseball League or the American Association, perhaps as early as the 2009 season."
Doubt we'll see something in '09, but if the GBL could snag 4 of those teams they could start their own Texas Division.

ULB Teams that tried to jump to the GBL (or elsewhere) after last season were
handed a restraining order. Harlingen has been locked out of it's stadium,
Brownsville has been nixed due the the leagues filing bankruptcy (as have
the San Angelo Colts, filed bankruptcy.)
A much as I would like to see GBL expansion. Moving into such a far away
region from it's current teams may be a risk. As of now, Amarillo is the only
team to publicly announce its intentions to move to another league. A new
ownership group in Alexandria is also, reportedly trying to find a league.

Don't we think Southern California is the focal point of the league?
I think Texas is closer to LA than Calgary. Just saying.
Of course, it makes a two-pronged league into a three-pronged league, and nobody will likely be happy with that travel. However, should Canadian teams fail, there's another way to go.

The stronger ULB teams are rolling in with the CBL, and that actually could create a real strong league.
As far as GBL expansion...there are so many good markets here in West. I would agree that going stretching it all the way to Texas would only be possible if the GBL got El Paso away from the AA.
Possible markets out west: Prescott, AZ...a return to San Diego...Medford, OR has expressed their interest...Bakersfield, CA might be without a team...Palm Springs, CA...Vancouver, WA...Moscow, ID...

I have heard 2 teams to be added next year in Texas and 2 in Hawaii...
