View Full Version : Name the team and UFLacess.com
uflaccess.com is a forum that covers the league and all the latest news. Before anyone calls it a joke they should go on that forum and talk with the guys there and find out why they go to that forum insted of this one.
I like going to both, OS because of the coverage of Basketball and football, UFL acess because of the indepth covearge of the UFL and other football news.
One of the cool things about the UFL, they are asking fans to chose names for the teams, which gets the fans more involved and makes them feel apart of something big.

I can tell you why the UFL fans of whom you speak spend there time on the UFL message board and not here.
If they were posting here, they would likely be mocked by the folks on this board who have little confidence that the UFL will actually play, let alone succeed.
Whereas, if anyone on the official board attempted to express their skepticism, they would likely be banned.
It has all happened before. It will all happen again.
Unfortunately, the dicotomy created is that the cheerleaders hang out on official boards, and the cynics hang out here.
I see, so if I want to hear good news about the UFL I need to go there and if I want to hear the other side of the coin I need to post here?
Would you say its like if you know the truth about the ABA you post here, and if you believe Joe you would go to abalive.com and ignore OSC?
Is there anything that can be said by anyone on this board that would be positive?

Evad.........No. They like to be mostly negative on this board it seems. They want to find the wrongs not the rights about pretty much everything. I myself will check out the uflaccess. I love the game of football and want to see them succeed. I can't wait for these other outdoor leagues to start up! I was a season ticket holder for the Hitmen in the XFL. When they folded shop I turned over to Arena football to fill the void.

There are a lot of people here who would love to see a true professional outdoor minor league football circuit. The history of such endeavors suggests that a good dose of skepticism is warranted, but that doesn't mean many of us don't want it to happen.

I haven't been banned from the UFL boards yet. Don't even bother with UNGL and USFL because they're too obvious to be jokes.

Evad -- Yes, it depends what leagues you follow and who else posts there.
Some feel good stories from last year.
Followers of the Golden Baseball Leagues Orange County Flyers saw the teams
best record in four seasons. An MLB Hall of famer managing (Gary Carter).
And two playoff comebacks (From 2-1 to Long Beach, winning in five); and
a walk off hit to capture the championship versus Calgary (3 games to 2).
In a dismal minor league basketball environment, few could argue (though
some do.) with the success on and off the court of the then ABA's Vermont
Frost Heaves back to back championships.
The NYPL's Jamestown Jammers had a fairly successful run ending in a lose
in last seasons league championship.
Both the Yakima Sun Kings (CBA) and Indiana Ice Miners (MAHL) had nearly
perfect seasons going at one point last year. Twisted by the fact that one
league closed shop mid-season, and both teams no longer exist.

We had this chance with the USFL 25 years ago. At a time when television,
and an intrigued fanbase were peaking. It was too bad that the USFL and
NFL chose to lock horns rather than work things out and try to give fans
a true developmental league (and 18 more weeks of outdoor football).
It seems like every future spring, or fall league is measured by the USFL's
failure.

Here I was, ready to pop on here and attempt to put out the fire by throwing gasoline at it...
...and then I had a thought.
How many leagues have STARTED OUT as coast to coast concerns and survived?
I think none of the big 4 started that way, BTW.
The only answers I can think of that still exist... Major League Soccer and the WNBA. Both of these are the premier leagues for their sport (or gender of the sport) in America. MLS has had its ups and downs (though far less than the NBA's start, it must be said), while the jury may still be out on the WNBA.
I think you're smart to start regionally and expand. A football league ought to be doing that IMO. However, how do you marry scarce facilities to scarce willing moneymen in a region? That can't be easy. No matter the popularity of the sport, there are barriers to entry for football leagues that other sports don't necessarily have to contend with. Not only the facilities... football has a lot of equipment to work with, a lot of college competition (amongst a bunch of greedy b******s, no less), and an NFL that sometimes works like the Mob IMO.
No wonder that even this league had its reputation staked on one investor instead of 8.

If any of these leagues wants real investors they should turn to Warren Buffett, Bill Gates and Richard Branson. Those are men with serious bank and losing the small amount of money they would lose starting up a new Pro league would be no problem. In the end these three men could be responsible for a real competitor to the NFL. I will not suggest they go out and do as Donald Trump and so many misguided owners did in the original USFL.
My suggestion would be to get at least one marquee name on each team and then build the league slowly. I still feel their is plenty of good players that have been overlooked by the NFL who would shine. If anything it will be fun to see guys go to the NFL through these other leagues. I don't however want to see these leagues as a continual feeder to the NFL. I want a new league that in time is a friendly competitor to the NFL. Preferably a spring league that is competitively equal to the NFL. Free Agents and College kids could chose fall or spring seasons based on their preferences. Talent would spread evenly. I know that is a pipe dream but what can I say I am a dreamer. Sometimes dreams come true. ;)
