Sam, he is right on this one. I have obtained a copy of the same e-mail. Fees are going straight to Chichester and I doubt he is claiming them on his taxes.

Just keeping people honest, fkaf. I trust you, but Nostradamus-boy has been sending me pretty funny PMs, as if I was somehow related to/in league with Joe Newman.

Any of you who have paid attention over the years know how stupid that is.

Sam, when it comes to the ABA, A1sports has an inside scoop. You might not like that fact, or his delivery, or his schtick.

But A1sports has been a great poster for his ability to find these nuggets. ABARedWhiteBlue is probably the most knowledgable about this fiasco-circus-nuclear-disaster of a league but A1 does have a ton of info.

A1 does get some inside information on the ABA, no doubt. Still, I'd like to see the snarling at anyone who questions him come to a quick end.

It's delivery and schtick. I don't care about the fact, whatever it is. I think the fact is that he knows some stuff but acts like he invented plutonium.

Not all of which pans out. Sounds good. Doesn't always come true.

a few refs called each other and said they will band together and NOT do ABA games if Chichester starts pushing for fees being sent to him.

smart move !!!

Lord, I wouldn't either. In what other league are fees paid to the Director of Officials? It just blows my mind that anyone would pay these fees, especially since they should know there is a pretty good chance the money is going into Chichester's pockets.

Most every league, association, or conference has a roster fee paid by officials BEFORE the season. It is usually in the $50 range. The money typically goes to the conference, however, sometimes it does go to the assignor for administration costs. The difference with the ABA is a midseason suprise hit going straight to Chichester is very unnecessary and very unprofessional.

Indeed.

I can't believe they hadn't done that before now.

Who was the guy in South Bend or northwest Indiana or wherever it was who was in a "hometown guy makes good" story or something in the local paper as an official? He was all geeked up because he was going to work ABA games and then it turned into a nightmare (as most things ABA eventually do).

Caveat emptor. You knew these guys were scorpions when you agreed to let them get on your backs to cross the river.

Have some self-respect. If you're not getting paid and treated professionally by a supposed professional organization, you just make things worse if you continue to whore yourself out like that. If you want to do something for the good of the game or to help young people enjoy basketball, volunteer at the Y or with Special Olympics.*

Subject/Topic:
08-09 Admin Fee Info.
Dear ABA Officials, To date the ABA season has been going forward. Many regions are playing their games as scheduled or close to it. There certainly has been some teams with schedule changes and situations and some teams have folded, as some have hung on and some doing very well. Put simply, things have been all over the board, but we are still going forward. In fact during a season where for the first time in 20 years the Arena FL holds it''s 09 operations, the CBA after 60 plus season looks to close down, but asks us the ABA to keep them in business and allow for games to be played with our teams (and vice-versa), we , the ABA , are at least still standing and looking towards next season as well with new teams throughout the country. With that being said, as you know, to date I have held off on admin. fees to me for this season, basically because I was unsure of a few things. Well, I have been working it hard to try and keep things in order and to have at least our ABA association of officials in the picture of things with hopes of some improvement within the league for next season. It has been an extremely difficult season thus far administratively. So again, because of some of these unknowns, I held off on the Admin fees. Since we are moving forward and I am still putting my time in all of this, I will try to make this easy and fair for all. Please review the following fee structure... and if you have any questions or concerns please call me directly. As always, I will be more than glad to listen and talk with you. Thank you. 08-09 Admin Fee Structure: ***For those officialst that have ABA Teams in your region and you have had One to Five assignments so far this season: Your fee is - $50 ***For those ABA officials that have ABA teams in your region and have received 5-10 assignments so far this season. Your fee is- $75 ***For those ABA Officials that have ABA teams in your region and you have received more than 10 assignments so far this season. Your Fee is : $100 ***For those officials with NO ABA teams in your region and or you have not received ANY assignemnts to date this season, there will be NO Administrative FEE''s due..... I am asking at this time as well for anyone that is planning to NOT be a part of ABA Officiating staff for next season to kindly notify me of that in writing. A thank you once again to all of you for your patience, hard work and professionalism. Sincerely, Tom Chichester ABA Director of Officials Please mail your fees to me at: Tom Chichester XX XXXXXXXXXX Dr. Rochester NY 14610

Dear ABA Officials, To date the ABA season has been going forward. Many regions are playing their games as scheduled or close to it.

And this is supposed to be something you can hang your hat on? In a league, everybody should be playing all of their games, not "close to it."

There certainly has been some teams with schedule changes and situations and some teams have folded,

ABA teams don't fold. Joe throws them out.

as some have hung on and some doing very well. Put simply, things have been all over the board, but we are still going forward.

Proving PT Barnum was right.

In a related story, my Strat-O-Matic baseball league is now in its 12th season and still going strong, despite the challenging economy. I take this as a good sign of my abilities as an administrator.

Or, how about this....the league should assess a fee to its teams for your services and those of the officials and then send the officials checks rather than have the officials take a percentage of the pittance that some teams might or might not give them and send you a cut of that?

That's the part that makes sense. I don't have any ABA teams in my region and I have not received any assignments to date this season. I will send you a check for $0.

I am asking at this time as well for anyone that is planning to NOT be a part of ABA Officiating staff for next season to kindly notify me of that in writing.
