Steve Tucker Becomes First Coach To Lead Two Different Teams To #1 In ABA Power Rankings
January 2, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Southeast Texas Mustangs
The ABA Power Ranking was introduced in November of 2004. Over the last four seasons many teams have been ranked #1 and a small number of teams have been dominant in the poll. Teams like the Arkansas Rim Rockers and the Vermont Frostheaves (both eventual ABA championship teams).
Outstanding Coaches such as Joe Harge (Arkansas) and Will Voigt (Vermont) have led their teams to long runs at the top of the Power Rankings, just like Coach Jan Van Breda Kolff has done this season with his Nashville Broncs.
Yet, with that said, no coach since the induction of the ABA Power Ranking has done what was accomplished this week, when the Southeast Texas Mustangs were named as the #1 ranked team in the Power Rankings, Coach Steve Tucker became the first coach to ever lead two different teams to the #1 position.
Coach T's 2006-07 Jacksonville Jam held the #1 ranking in November and early December in 2006. With Tucker's SETX Mustangs becoming the #1 ranked team in the ABA earlier this week the veteran coach did what no coach in the ABA has ever done before!
The Southeast Texas Mustangs are off to a fast start to begin this ABA season with a 7-1 record thus far and are winners of 6 straight. Coach T will lead his Mustangs back into action this Sunday against the Houston Takers at home at Ford Arena in Beaumont, TX. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
Sunday's game will be Military Day, where our Armed Forces will be honored by the Mustangs . Please come out to show your support for our Troops and for the Mustangs!
For further information on tickets or on the SETX MUSTANGS call #409/951-5500 or go online to www.setxmustangs.com or www.abalive.com.

Tucker Leads Another Team to Number One ABA Power Ranking
January 2, 2009 - American Basketball Association (ABA)
Beaumont, TX. The ABA Power Rankings were introduced in November of 2004. Over the last four seasons, many teams have been ranked #1 and a small number of teams have been dominant in the poll. Outstanding coaches had led their teams to long runs at the top of the rankings. No coach since the induction of the ABA Power Rankings has done what was accomplished this week when Head Coach Steve Tucker of the SETX Mustangs became the first coach ever to lead two different teams to the #1 position.
Coach T's 2006-07 Jacksonville Jam held the #1 ranking in November and early December 2006. With the SETX Mustangs becoming the #1 ranked team in the ABA this week, the veteran coach did what no other ABA coach has done before. The Southeast Texas Mustangs are off to a fast start to begin this ABA season with a 7-1 record thus far and the winners of six straight. Sunday's game will be Military Day, where our Armed Forces will be honored by the Mustangs.
Note that - aside from the missing exclamation points - Joe's version omits the names of specific teams and coaches who did, indeed, dominate the rankings in the past. Teams and coaches who, of course, fled his ABA and as a result do not deserve - in his mind - any promotion or mention whatsoever (he took the Broncs out, too; I guess the sentence didn't work well as a stand-alone).
From the Yahoo board in 2005, after the league's website was updated by removing teams that had competed in the 04-05 season, but left after the year (which included the champion RimRockers); I asked Joe why these teams were removed - among other questions - and got this reply:

Adam. Thanks for your email. And I must say, you are among the easier people to "brush off." However, every so often I respond if I find the question(s) interesting. Very few of yours fit that category. We will update the website shortly and make sure that all information is accurate. There were teams pulled from the ABA website because we have no desire to publicize them. Again, thanks. Have a good evening.

I guess that standard operating procedure now extends to team releases.
Joe continues to be a petty, arrogant man, even as his league crumbles around him for yet another season.
