I just got an e-mail from the Raptors and the name has changed to the Washington-Fresno Raptors as opposed to the Fresno-Washington Raptors.

Not like it makes a difference........

The Kansas City-Omaha Kings were unavailable for comment.

They should have like reversible jerseys with both names for home, home, and away, away. :D

For a team that's played less games than I have fingers, this team's gone through more nicknames than Diddy.

so (and I haven't bothered to check a map) I assume that these two cities are close to each other (like Dallas-Fort Worth, Kansas City-Omaha, etc.). Because why would anybody with half a brain merge two teams that are many hundreds of miles apart? It just doesn't make sense!

This could be a great marketing opportunity with fans from Fresno going to Washington (surely the drive wouldn't be that long) and fans from Washington going to Fresno. This could be the best thing the ABA has ever done!

You know, now that I think about it, I seem to remember someone doing a parody of an ABA team that was from one place titularly but played in another. Talk about life imitating art.

Heh-heh. He said "titularly."

Or for us northeasterners, about 100 miles longer than a car trip from Halifax to Barre VT.

Do you have to take a ferry at any point?

With the history of the ABA, and the 800+ miles between Fresno and Washington, we may have a first on the horizon -

the first time a home team can't afford to travel to its own home game

GREAT line....

Would it be fair to assume that it won't be easy to take the Fresno/Washington metropolitan area by storm?

I think it's my fault.

My soulmate, my girlfriend, is from Fresno.

We can take city (or county) buses from Portland to Seattle... and Lakewood... and possibly Rochester (though I doubt it) without ever having to touch Greyhound, an Amtrak bus, or any old offspring of Trailways. Actually, you can do that all the way to Vancouver BC if you're willing to walk over the border and on to White Rock a mile or two.

That's got to be the connection. Other than, say, Fresno having that thriving seaport, the searing hot Tacoma springtime, the fish smell in Clovis, all that.
