Koolbeck leaves BallHogs post PRO BASKETBALL

Gazette staff report

CEDAR RAPIDS — Mike Koolbeck confirmed Tuesday that he has stepped down as

vice president of sales and marketing for the Cedar Rapids BallHogs professional basketball team.

No replacement has been named.

‘‘The owner of the league and I have philosophical differences about the way the team should be marketed,’’ Koolbeck said.

The BallHogs are part of the fledgling All-American Professional Basketball League, which is slated to begin a 62-game schedule in November. Games are to be played at the U.S. Cellular Center.

The AAPBL announced last week it was suspending operations of the Pueblo (Colo.) Aztecs and replacing them with a team in Mankato. The league has not announced coaching staffs for teams or revealed team schedules.

The BallHogs do not have an office or phone number yet.

There's always friction with a startup. The questions pop up when the NEXT issue happens, if a pattern seems to emerge. Then we can roast 'em!

I thought this was going to be a spring league... of course, that's what the IBL is going to be. So many new leagues, so little bandwidth, time, or memory storage.

I see they have named Bill Klucas Vice President of basketball operations. He was head coach of LaCrosse Bobcats of the CBA in 2001 is all I know.

Wow Bill Klucas takes me back. He was the coach of the Saskatoon Slam of the old NBL in '93 & '94. He's a good coach that's all I know.
