"I am not sure exactly how many teams we have [left]," ABA president Joe Newman said.
The league lists 30 teams in its online standings, but several of those have ceased to function. The league is so unstable it cut the regular season short and will start the playoffs next week.
The ABA, however, plans to more than grow back what it lost this season: The league has signed on 45 new clubs for next season, including a team in Washington.

Simply amazing...

45 teams for next season? Please, Crazy Joe know that maybe 2 of them will last next year so the ABA will have 5 teams stable enough after next year to survive. Maybe that is a number that C.J. will know next year.

And that is what they call "signature-worthy."

What a hilarious quote from Uncle Joe. Typical. The insanity of the ABA continues to grow each day, and he can't tell how many teams are left in the league. Still, that hasn't stopped him from dreaming about next season. Heck, the ABA site didn't have a peep about the all-star fiasco, but it's making a big deal out of "another new team for next season!" (I think it's Columbus.)

What a sad, pathetic joke.

Yes he has that classic quote in the Washington Times, yet at the same time in the Nashville paper, he has this quote:
“Our league is in very good standing, and we’re continuing to grow,” Newman said. “By the start of next season, we’ll have 60 to 70 teams.
We started the season with 35 teams, and we currently have 29,” Newman said. “We had four that folded or suspended operations and two others (Calgary and Mexico) that had to stop due to the length of travel. Next season, with natural rivals in place for them, we expect both back.”

Do you have 29 or don't you know? You know, if he can create natural rivals in close proxemity as he claims these team could save that travel money none of them seem to be able to come up with and the players could just walk from high school gym to high school gym for road games. I'm sure they'd have to sign a waiver that says if they get ran over and become road kill the team and league won't be responsible, but after the walk, it would be fast paced exciting basketball.

Someone needs to stop this crack head. It's getting to the point it's not even fun watching him ruin potential decent markets for the CBA or NBDL by using morons owners with less money than the average fast food worker.

Ain't no way they currently have 29 teams operating. No way.

29 teams? Not even in Uncle Joe's dreams. And as for 70 teams next season... well, Joe, let's just get out of THIS season before we start counting our chickens, eh?
