Maywood Buzz 6-0 After Pushing Around Los Angeles 121-116
December 20, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Maywood Buzz

Maywood, CA - After finishing last season 4-27, Buzz Head Coach Burrel Lee III started on the 2008-2009 season in April of 2008. "First I needed to find a Point Guard and build around him. I found him in Kenny Wright 6'3 G Long Beach City College who was a 2008 ABA All-Star and 3rd Team All-ABA. Kenny and I started to build the team" stated Lee.
Well finding the point guard and building the team has paid off. The Maywood Buzz is 6-0, and was 6-1 in the preseason for a whopping 12-1 record since October. Doc Rivers and his Boston Celtics had the big turn around and won a championship. We are trying to follow suit and believe we have that same reciepe for championship success.

Last night the Buzz beat the Los Angeles Push to push their 2008-2009 record to 6 wins and zero loses.

The Buzz was lead by guard Wesley Stokes (28pts, 10rebs & 6ast), forward Jermain Willform (22pts, 8rebs & 3blks), newly added forward Tarron Williams (19pts), center Donald Jones (16pts, 10rebs & 2blks) and guard Jamar Cramer (15pts). The Push was lead by guards Eric Homes (34pts) and Larry Williams (18pts).

The Buzz will next take on the Beijing Aoshen Olympians (0-2) on Sunday, December 21st at 4:00pm at the Maywood Activity Center. The Olympians are coming off back to back loses to the Buzz (119-103) and the Los Angeles Slam (126-121) a local travel team from the LA area. "We know they will be hungry and looking for that first win before they head to Salt Lake City" added Lee.

Maywood Buzz 6-1 After Pushing Around Los Angeles 121-116
December 20, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Maywood Buzz

Maywood, CA - After finishing last season 4-27, Buzz Head Coach Burrel Lee III started on the 2008-2009 season in April of 2008. "First I needed to find a Point Guard and build around him. I found him in Kenny Wright 6'3 G Long Beach City College who was a 2008 ABA All-Star and 3rd Team All-ABA. Kenny and I started to build the team" stated Lee. Then, I had to find an owner - or at least someone to help bay the bills. That took a little longer, and we finally got a handshake deal done, but not in time to allow us to make a scheduled game.

Well finding the point guard and building the team has paid off. The Maywood Buzz is 6-1, (and might have been 7-0 if we did not have to forfiet that game against Arizona that was on the schedule that I put together and that Arizona had planned for as well) and was 6-1 in the preseason for a whopping 12-2 record since October (even though pre-season games don't actually count, a few of the ABA teams like to use them to pump up their numbers - like us). Doc Rivers and his Boston Celtics had the big turn around and won a championship. We are trying to follow suit and believe we have that same reciepe for championship success, albeit without KG, Ray Allen or anyone who could make the 15th roster spot; hell, our league is getting smoked by the CBA so far.

Last night the Buzz beat the Los Angeles Push to push their 2008-2009 record to 6 wins and zero loses in games actually played, but there is still that nagging one forfeit.

The Buzz was lead by guard Wesley Stokes (28pts, 10rebs & 6ast), forward Jermain Willform (22pts, 8rebs & 3blks), newly added forward Tarron Williams (19pts), center Donald Jones (16pts, 10rebs & 2blks) and guard Jamar Cramer (15pts). I know what Burrel did borders on what SF did to Washington and Washington did to Alaska, but arrangements were made and agreed to by all sides, so I’m not counting the forfeit. My take is that all sides agreed and then Phoenix, fearful of not have enough players or just not prepared to played asked to have the game called an exhibition. That led Arizona to call for the forfeit. In essence, it is Burrel’s word against some PR statements from the Rhinos. Was it right for the person in charge of West Coast scheduling to change the travel line-up at the last minute because it benefitted his team? No. But anyone who looks at the cancellations and fill-in teams over the years will see that the Buzz never play their initial schedule because they are essentially the league’s first travel team.

And as to what happened up in Bellingham I don’t know, but that season alone Bellingham had six home games cancelled outright (OC, Inglewood (2), LV, SF and Fresno—which was rescheduled from week earlier) and one fill-in team (Bellevue for Hawaii.) On the road they had eight games cancelled (2 each against Bellevue and Hawaii, and 1 game against Tacoma, Fresno, SF and SJ.) and played against SJ instead of the scheduled SF Pilots on 1/14. It was not a good year for any team.

So according to my Official Standings Arizona beat Phoenix in an official game, Maywood beat Phoenix the next day and the game originally scheduled between the Fury and the Push was rescheduled as Maywood vs LA. Only that game was cancelled. Think of the mess if Phoenix had travelled to play on Sunday and there was no Push.
