I understand that there's been a lot of drama and entertainment on OSC this weekend. I'm still catching up to most of it.

Friday at 3am, the ice storm that tore through the northeast knocked out my household. It was absolutely horrible. There were downed power lines and broken tree branches and stumps where trees used to be. Driving three miles downtown was almost akin to a slalom downhill.

For the time we were without power, I made sure my wife and father-in-law were taken care of, I put them up in a motel for three days while I stayed at the house and made sure that my house (as well as those of my neighbors) were unmolested by thieves or criminals looking for valuables or copper pipe. I also tried to keep the water flowing whenever possible, so that my pipes did not freeze.

No, I do not own a portable generator, and thankfully I did not have to endure the tragedy of those who purchased generators and improperly used them, flooding their houses with toxic carbon monoxide.

Sunday evening I did get to the Patroons game, and believe me that Armory was a furnace compared to the chill in my house. By Sunday night, it took five blankets, a transistor radio and a flashlight with a graphic novel of Watchmen to keep me from going completely nuts at night.

The power just came on about an hour ago. Essentially I lost power for three and a half days. Minimal damage here, I had to replace my computer monitor (even with a surge protector it got fried) and needed to reconfigure my home computer network, but other than that things are back to semi-normalcy.

Take care Chuckles and I am glad to hear you have power and that all is well.

Wow, that makes the North Dakota blizzard look like nothing. We got hit Saturday night and most of Sunday. Temps were down to -20 with wind chills at below -40. The snow drifts were high, but the snow plows were hard at work on Sunday, making my less-than-a-mile drive to work less painful. By today, all the roads were clear. But I'm not gonna complain after hearing those stories about the NE ice storm.

Yesterday, for the first time (that I can ever remember), the Dakota Wizards had to postpone a game. The Tulsa 66ers were stuck in Watertown, SD (having played the Sioux Falls Skyforce the night before). But the game was rescheduled for tonight and I was pleased to see on the D-League site that the Wizards got their first home victory of the season. In a way I miss the CBA. The quarter point system always made the games more exciting.
