Just got word that the Erie team is under new ownership. Why, just could not stop the financial bleeding. Now the question is what league are they going to play in. It makes perfect sense to play in the CIFL for travel cost, but hey, who knows. Jeff did a great thing by keeping the team there and from shutting it down so KUDOS to him. Now lets just hope the new owners have the money to keep playing, after all there is about 300 players and coaches out of a job as of this morning with the ARENA league going black for the year, and if they return for the 2010 season

I would think that the AFL would be the most financially stable of all of the indoor football leagues out there. If they are going dark this year, I would say that things are not looking good for any indoor football league at this point.

No, the AFL has grossly overreached their finances for years trying to chase the big money from TV. When that fell through from NBC, they sold part of the league to ESPN and hoped the "Worldwide Leader In Sports" would somehow drum up the ad revenue.

Didn't happen. Teams spend more on their roster than they make in tickets. That's not even counting other staff, travel, arena, etc.

The AFL is NOT going black this year.

As they said on the call last night"not for now" so we will see, hey nate, what is with Brett buying the Preds with all this going on? Does he still have a stake in the Rattlers? Might make it down for a few games this yr. To watch the Storm play them.

The AFL was paying NBC, not the other way around. It was a time buy for the league.

It was a shared agreement. 11 million of the revenue to NBC to cover production, the next 3 million to the AFL. Then any additional revenue was to be split 50-50.

The old ABC/ESPN/TNN deals were time-buys.

Remember Gator Grip?
