Will hockey return to Augusta after the recent demise of the Lynx?

Its not too surprising that the SPHL is interested, but I still have my doubts. The SPHL had a team in Florence after the Pee Dee Pride folded, but only lasted one season.

I wouldn't be surprised if the Twin City Cyclones try and relocate to Augusta. The Cyclones attendance is terrible along with their record. Plus their owner is from Florence, SC (its not like he is personally/professionally tied to Winston-Salem).

It's always tough for a new franchise to follow a folded team. Sponsors are shy and all but the die-hard fans come to the games

A team in Augusta, GA would be a tremendous addition to the SPHL.

The league has been doing a great job!

If they could add just a few more teams.

Roanoke, VA is another area that would be great.

You are right. If the league could add a few more teams... Greenville, Pensacola, Augusta, Roanoke, etc. they could really be a force to be reckoned with. The only damper will be the economy.

Roanoke's been burned one too many, to the degree that said no more hockey

To all Augusta fans,
I understand your concern about going from the E to the S; we lost our Sea Wolves and thought that the S would be like watching kids play.
I found that the play was a little slower, passes not as crisp and scoring was a little easier...BUT, I also found that I like the S better, here's why; these guys play for the love of the game, not to be called up to the AHL and only use us as a stepping stone. All of the teams are about even in talent and it's still a family fun time here in Biloxi.
Before you all start talking about "A" vs. "AA", yeah there is a difference, I wouldn’t mind watching guys go to the NHL that played here, but I do enjoy the fact that we have a hockey team.
Congratulations Augusta
We WILL see ya on the ice next year and I hope that you are as successful as we have been!
Your MISSISSIPPI SURGE…Feel the power

Expansion is happening, I want you to remember the early days of the ECHL when the South made up over half of the league, guess what SPHL stands for…SOUTH!
