Salt Lake City Saints Announce Quick Tryout
10/13/08 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Salt Lake City Saints
Salt Lake City, UT. The newly announced ABA Salt Lake City Saints (formerly the Dreams) have announced a tryout for Tuesday, October 14th at 7pm-10pm at Salt Lake Community College Lifetime Activities Center.
According to Kenny Wamsley, team owner, "No sooner did we announce the team and that we would be playing in the ABA beginning in December, than our phones began to ring off the hook with players interested in competing for a position on the team. I think we already have 40 signed up. So, we decided to do a very quick tryout camp and jumpstart the process."
Pre-registration is $100; at the door $150. Each player will be required to complete two forms - a release form and an information sheet. Players from this tryout will be selected to play on this year's team. "Please show up like it's a job interview," added Wamsley. "You'll be evaluated from the time you walk in the door."
For more information, call 801 673 9317 or email kennywamsley@yahoo.com or visit www.abalive.com.
Can a cell ring 'off the hook'?
So, based upon this missive, we should expect to see at least 40 players trying out tomorrow night, for a team just announced a few days ago; a team with no web presence, cultivated income stream, presumably little to no staffing, and (based on the multiple names) no logo or even team stationary.
I'll set the over/under at 4 games.
But hey, if he gets a couple guys to show up and pay, maybe Wamsley can pay Jack back what he owes him!

Players from this tryout will be selected to play on this year's team? Damn...That's a quality pro basketball team....picking the locals that come to the tryout camp to make up your entire roster.....Folks....you can go watch Salt Lake City rec league action...and not have to pay a dime...What's the better deal? It's the same players!

With 40 signed up (and hopefully more showing up at the door), that $4,000 (assuming they paid in advance). Two or three more of these and they can pay off their market reservation fee or maybe a night or two of their venue rent.

My hat goes off to you ABARWB. The with a grain of Salt (Lake City) is one of the best puns/titles I've seen on here. That was a good one. Good points about a 'nom du jour' too.
I'd be surprised if the cell phone rang once frankly. Unless Joe was looking for the 1st of 20 $500 dollar installments on the 10k entry fee.

I have long since given up on any chance at a refund. The original owners left the team hanging, Wamsley tried to fund it himself. I don't have the receipt anyway and do not think Kenny should have any obligation to me. Ole Joe? That is another story.
I just cannot see this late night train wreck making it in SLC/Taylorsville. The Snowbears had a hard time getting folks to pay for tickets, The Dream had no better luck and they never played a game! I worked at the firehouse across from SLCC and we attended a few home games of the Snowbears, in between calls, it was a ghost town in the gym.
Good Luck to Kenny but I think it will not end pretty. Cheers, jack

Salt Lake City Saints Announce Head Coach
November 18, 2008 - American Basketball Association (ABA) Salt Lake City Saints
Kenny Wamsley, owner of the Salt Lake City Saints of the American Basketball Association, announced Lossie Mitchel, as the teams head basketball coach. Wamsley said "Mr. Mitchel convinced me over the last month that he was indeed the right man for the job." Mitchel, who played point guard for San Jose State as well as in South America, will take 15 players into training camp beginning next week in preparation for the teams' season. The Saints regular season begins December 7th and 8th in Modesto, California against the Modesto Bears. The teams' home opener will be December 19th and 20th against 2007 ABA Finalists San Diego Wildcats.
Wamsley also added that "more announcements will be made this week on player signings and training camp, plus the staffing. We have 5 players that we know will make the team and should be announcing a major player signing later this week that will make the Saints a feature ballclub in the ABA and in the Salt Lake City market"
Hey, they have 5 guys already, but aren't ranked yet in the top 24? Joe must think these guys are really awful.
As though he could name one player on this - or most any other - team.

good start for the season, good recap (look, stats!)
Having Pearson on board should help this team appear professional.

Yeah, considering Pearson was the original ABA online mouthpiece / apologist / spin doctor before Robbie Kendall came along... then Pearson moved to the CBA and drove the Utah Eaglez into the ground... Pfft...
Just saying is all...

all true, Chuck
but at least he has experience putting together coherent sentences, which put him ahead of many ABA officials
