Although nothing has been mentioned on here yet....3 teams are exploring leaving the league for a rival league. At least 3 team owners are having multiple problems which includes (but not limited to) disputing the profit sharing business model and are looking at moving to another league. Apparent problems within the PBL infrastructure has been causing those teams to actively communicate with management about not playing this season unless certain concessions are made immediately. I thought that something would be posted by now as this started somewhere from 10-14 days ago... shameful.....

Well according to the article written about the new Michigan team, with a guy like this at the helm there should be no problems. "Another Basketball icon involved with the league is Tom Doyle, President of Premier Basketball League (PBL) and owner of Rockville Maryland Nighthawks. Doyle was selected for his integrity, leadership skills and long-standing commitment to the sport."

Assuming this is remotely true (I honestly have no idea either way), who would be leaving? And what league would they join?
The CBA has their schedule completed, I don't see them adding teams this late. The ABA is where half these teams came from, why would they go back? The NBADL certainly isn't going to take on any of these teams.
It just doesn't seem to fit.

I don't see the teams going to another league this season either..At this point it appears any owner is where they will be for 08-09 and must play it out... the changes would be next season
as for the article written....it was a PBL article... i doubt they would write anything negative mentioned despite the fact some owners aren't so sure about integrity and leadership skills. They don't question a commitment to the sport but they question his commitment to them.

From the article (press release?!?).
Shockey is no stranger to Pro-Basketball. He has been involved for decades with players such as Basketball Legend, "Pistol Pete" Maravich and more. He has worked diligently for decades with talented players attempting to get into the NBA. Shockey was also an Assistant Coach in the CBA League for the Flint Fuse team as well as The Great Lakes Storm which was based out of Birch Run.
The press release also goes on to mention the association with NBA great Pistol Pete Maravich a few more times. Hmmmmm. Hasn't Pistol Pete been deceased for a couple of decades now?!? Stick a fork in Mid-Michigan.

well three new franchises all in michigan is good for the pbl. but losing rockford, quad city and Reading all in a matter of months is troubling. And i really never heard what the real reasons these teams folded.
However to the credit of the pbl, if they in fact paid for the referees, and travel costs, and uniform costs, then I would think that the owners should be able to make it through the season. So either the league did not qualify the owners enough, or the owners did not come clean with there ability to support a team. But something just doesn't add up. In terms of so many teams dropping out.

Here's what has come over my "wire":
1. Reading was a "big budget" team (tried to be Rochester) in their first year, lost a lot of money; league paying travel was nice, but that was a small part of the their budget; they didn't have the stomach to lose it for year 2. (That's no insult to them.)
2. QC/Rockford - both lower budget teams but were getting nothing in terms of fan support (relatively speaking); owners decided it was worth dropping it in for a 3rd year. (Again, no insult.)
Good news is that these teams met their obligations during the season. Expect more of this in all leagues, hopefully in the off season.
Regarding the Pikeville poster, he and a1 seem to be taking on the same role for their respective sides. Both of you at least imply the other leagues teams are not worthy, yet you keep courting them.
Truth is that the PBL will likely see some more turnover, tumoil, and expansion next year, and the CBA is dangerously close to only having 3 teams next season. (No, these two teams won't be going to another league.)
You really need to find some common ground quickly.

Where's A1? I thought he'd want to set the record straight. Oh wait... he's busy posting on the CBA boards.
