CBA in Central Oregon?

Bend is cool... and even cooler in the winter. Quite lovely. The Deschutes Brewery kicks butt. Many nice resorts around the area. The region ballooned in population in the 90s... if you include surrounding areas within a half-hour drive or so, it's about two-thirds of Yakima's "metro" population.

Of course, the arena they're looking at is 16 miles north in Redmond. That ought to be a deal-breaker (though Redmond has grown as fast as Bend, just from a smaller starting point to a smaller present)... but Bend interests have been pushing arena proposals for a while now, so the Expo Center could be a means to an end.

Bend is a stunningly beautiful place, and the sheer number of things to do there in the winter -- skiing, hiking, snowboarding all are nearby -- could pose a problem for a winter sports league. That said, the area is growing by leaps and bounds and will continue to do so. I don't think there's any college basketball in the area to pose competition, and travel to Idaho and Yakima wouldn't be bad.

Does anybody know about other CBA teams in Oregon's history? For that matter, is there a written resource that gives CBA franchise-movement history? I wish this information was available on the league's Web site, but I can't find it.

You can try www.apbr.org, the Association for Professional Basketball Research. I don't think its CBA history has been updated for a while, but I believe it has the basics as far as which teams were in the CBA in which years.
