Are there any plans for a TV deal for the IFL?
It would be a travesty if come February we can't find a game on one of the 1000 channels on American cable and satellite

"TV deals" at this level are stupid.

National TV deals at this level are stupid. However, regional and local TV deals are not and, if done properly, can do a lot to help increase corporate sponsorship sales.

A national TV deal that paid the league money would NOT be stupid.

Holding out hope for that pipe dream would be stupid. Thatsa not happenin.

National TV deals?
Indiscriminant expansion
Faulty looking ownership groups.
All that's missing is CaroLn Shriver.

See what I'm getting at.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how 30+ teams will co-exist in one league.

Television is a chance to get advertising dollars. Why not look into getting a network like Spike to buy into the league. They have been a big part of the UFC's success. ESPN has ownership in AFL. I don't think the idea should be dismissed.

Your comparing Apples and Oranges. The IFL is in small markets with 1,800-3,500 fans per team. Do you think the people in LA or NY want to watch Bloomington play Fairbanks in low level indoor football? The answer is no.

Are even the people in Bloomington and Fairbanks going to watch it? Probably not.

A regional or local deal that shows succesful teams in pivitol or rival games I can see. But a 1-12 team playing a 3-10 team in front of 2,000 fans is not going to be on TV.

Does anyone remember Slamball? Bunch of guys on trampolines playing basketball. If they can get TWO tv deals why can't this work?

Because they employed street basketball players, who would bring a following?

Because they built a sport around a time limitation and they prefilm the games. You squeeze a sport into an hour minus commercials. Add some reality TV to it and you can get on TV.

What about the Womens Pro Fastpitch league, they are on tv, why not the IFL, and the womens league games have what, MAYBE 300- 500 people at the games. If this is a way to influx corporate money then they need to get a deal done, and at this time there is a couple options that are being dealt with.

Slamball LOL. I remember that.

I think the best case scenario would be to let a network get in on the ground floor of the league. Then they help you market it as well. The UFC was nothing until Spike picked it up and the UFC is now getting good ratings for Spike. Who would think that a sport could become popular on TV with a couple of no names beating the tar out of each other in a cage. I can't believe I actually watch that.

There might be some other networks interested just because of the fact that ESPN has ownership in AFL. I think these networks compete with each other and that is why you see some of the spin off MMA organizations on other networks. I think the IFL needs to find a network that wants to compete with ESPN and the AFL/AFL2. Just my opinion.

For those that advocate local TV deals only; will that not take away from live game attendance? (unless the games are broadcast several days later) Some will say, why go to the game when I can see it on TV.

I agree with trying to get it on a channel like Spike.

Look at a team like Lehigh Valley. I think they showed their home games LIVE locally this past year, and attendance didn't drop nearly enough for it to have been the reason.

If you can get a local station to show games where it's financially feasible to do so, there's no reason to not do it.

If you can get a Fox Sports Net to show games where it's financially feasible to do so (and it may well be, I don't know how much the AIFA was charged for their infomercial time slots), there's no reason to not do it. Though you won't get 500,000 people to watch, you may get people to watch somewhere like Fairbanks or Bloomington who didn't realize they had a team.

The question that should be asked is "can you afford to pay a network enough to televise your games?"

I don't see them paying you, Mr. Whomever Here Wants To Play Commissioner.

I'd agree. The best-case scenario would probably be to find a sponsor that'd mitigate whatever the costs were. If a league didn't mind a tape-delay situation, it'd probably be rather inexpensive.

Is a live league wide national TV deal even a possibility?

Teams, arena's, ownerships, timing, quality, staff, resources and just about everything else varies wildly from team to team, and game to game. AF2 has a game day manual the size of the phone book for uniformity, and all it did for them was raise the costs of the game.

I just don't see it happening for indoor football anytime soon. At least a QUALITY deal that is. JMHO . . :)

I don't think the one-hour show (a'la slamball) is a terrible idea if someone gives them help with that, either. That'd be a neat idea.
