I found this press release today:
Kansas City (Press Fabrications, Int'l.), September 10, 2008: Today, Joe Newman, CEO and founder of the up-and-coming American Basketball Association, announced new expansion teams for the 2008-09 season. "We're excited to welcome Arnold Jackson into the league as our newest player-owner," Newman said. Jackson's team, the Wichita Kinboutwillis, will being play this fall in the Wichita Palace Arena, a new 1200-seat stadium to built this autumn.
Newman also announced the formation of an entirely new division in the ABA for the season beginning this fall, the Sacramento Division. "We've awarded franchises to eight owners, and each of those teams will begin play this fall," Newman said. "All of the teams in this division will play in Sacramento, California." Newman went on to elaborate a plan in which these Sacramento teams, whose nicknames include the Sacramento Sludge and the High-Flying Score-screamers of Sacramento, will play in eight high school gyms around the city. The teams will rotate 'home games' at each gym. "The method behind this genius is to allow fans in every part of Sacramento to feel like each of the teams belong to them, allowing all eight teams to become securely rooted in the community."
"We're looking forward to an exciting season," Newman said. "After we prove that the 'Sacramento model' works for developing multi-team ABA cities, we plan to roll it out to ten or twelve more cities next year, and possibly fifty cities the following year." Newman mentioned Chicago, Orlando, and Casper, Wyoming as target cities for the multi-team concept.
