Will the San Diego Shockwave be joining this new league in 2009?

Certainly their owner is in the new league, so if they were to get an Arizona-type team as well, it's something I wouldn't rule out.

There's also an owner in Bakersfield that is interested in putting a team in the IFL.

I believe there is an arena issue in San Diego and that a team most likely wouldn't be back in San Diego in time for next year. Just a rumor I heard.

Yes, I think I remember something about an arena issue, as well.

Both Omaha and RiverCity did at least as well as the prior year under Sprowls' leadership (in Omaha's case...with help from Crow, of course...far far far far far better)...so I don't think anyone's going to have a problem if they add a third team somewhere.

And as we've seen thus far...nor should they.

Thanks guys for the info, I can understand the arena issue. San Diego Sports Arena needs to be taken down and rebuilt. That place is bad. We will never have any pro sports teams here if they keep that place up.

I for one don't care about pro, I root for the minor leagues. I think the Shockwave should play again at the Cox Arena at S.D.S.U.

Unfortunately, Cox is outrageously expensive, and I don't know if the Sports Arena can even be used by teams anymore.

The image below comes straight from the San Diego Sports Arena website. I can't see why this same setup couldn't be used for indoor football.

I know there has been some talk of redeveloping the site on which the arena sits. I believe that has basically put the brakes on any arena improvements and a good bit of the normal upkeep as well, causing the loss of the San Diego Gulls hockey team a few years ago. A SD resident may have some more details.

I've been told the Shockwave may be back but not in San Diego.

Why? Hasn't Bakersfield failed twice?

Beats me. Maybe this person thinks he/she knows something that the other franchise owners didn't. Who knows? I was simply stating the fact that there is an interested owner.

It's probably a moot point anyway considering that there aren't any other teams in that region in the IFL. To my knowledge, there hasn't even been talk of the league going into that region yet.

Yes, but if the IFL has any intelligence at all, they'll employ a cost model where 3,500 fans a game can have actual success.

in the seats. So that's not going to happen. People didn't turn out for af2, why would do the same for IFL.

Certainly marketing the team would help get fans there. I'd be at least mildly intrigued in a market that did draw 1500-2000 legit without any real advertising.

Every league has its share of owners that think "okay, I've got a team, everyone loves football, they'll come out," and that never works.
