Somethings fishy going on in the AIFL. Ben Coates was hired as the new head coach at D2 Livingston college. In the story he explains "hiring" by the AIFL:

Coates recently served as an assistant coach with the Frankfurt Galaxy of NFL Europe. He then coached tight ends for the Dallas Cowboys under the tutelage of Bill Parcells, who coached Coates when he played for the New England Patriots.

The Carolina Sharks of the Atlantic Indoor Football League named Coates the team's head coach and general manager on Nov. 8. Coates said he never signed a contract, calling the move a "publicity stunt" to help a long-time friend.

Buyer beware. This has scam written all over it.

To be fair, please provide a link to the article you mention.

Mind you, a league with three teams should tip you off, not necessarily that you're witnessing a scam, but that the management and owners involved aren't exactly north of clueless.

To think that the owners or management of the AIFL would purposely defraud the fans and potential players of this is almost criminal. I hope not too many fans bought tickets hoping to see Ben Coats lead the Sharks.

Any league that seems to be focusing on $$$ player tyout before landing teams seems kinda shady. Take the money and run approach.

If people buy tickets just for a name, that's not so smart on their part...but I fully expect Charlotte's AIFL team to play, regardless of who the coach is.

I do worry about their proximity to other teams, though.

Erie, Johnstown and Canton aren't exactly what you'd call "close."

Famous last words.

I prefer waiting for the hatchlings to leave the eggs, personally.

Carolina's already a step ahead of the other 3 teams, with *gasp* players...

8 or 9 of them signed, even!
