[COLOR="RoyalBlue"]Wow this article is good. Its a shame what the IBL is becoming. I feel it could really be something great and was headed that way. These last few years instead of grow and become better I feel like its going in a bad direction. Events like this just make the IBL look bad.

To bad to see the All-Star game not go the way it was suppose to but hope that if they have another one that it will be promoted the right way.If Gary was hosting it would they not be responsible for promoting the game?

Yes definally Gary should take alot of the responsibility that it didnt go good. The owner of the league did seem against a All Star game. The league owner should be more careful about these events because if they dont go good like the one in Gary then I think it makes the IBL overall look bad.

The only thing missing was the red, white, and blue basketball to make it more ABA'ish...

Actually, the last ball on each rack of the three-point shooting contest was red, white, and blue (the money ball?!?). Crowd size was about 500, it is supposed to be a low budget league, and there are pics available in another thread. If the event was truely ABAish, then it wouldn't have happened at all (and there certainly wouldn't be pics). 8)

The real problem is ownership not making themselves available to the press. Although, Al and Brian (beat reporters) could have strolled over to the corporate table where a few of the owners were sitting--the owners needed to float around the scorers' table where the press sits. An owner or two has floated like this in the past so it would be nothing new. The same problem occurred last month with the players wanting to be paid on time. The owners didn't make themselves readily available to the press or to the players that day. Why wait until negative press surfaces, THEN pay the players anyway?!? That's backward. Egos should have been put in check and the pro-active approach of begging should have been performed. Same deal with the all*star game. The reporters just don't want to be treated like Shmucks. Explaining things to them heads-off a lot of problems.

...and of course, using the video scoreboard and maybe those cool urinal ads to promote the event would have cost nothing (except for the time to program the scoreboard and place the ads). Too late for the all*star game, but maybe it can be done for the playoffs--hint, hint.

Where is the league commissioner for this ibl? what is dulio doing? Counting all his franchise fees and checking his investments?

The fact that the ibl is turning into the aba, and thats because dulio is just the same as the neuman guy from the aba apparently.

I have heard rumors that the ibl may be breaking up and some of the teams are considering starting their own league (great thats just what we need, the ibl version of the pbl).

Help me somebody, this is getting to be so confusing!!!!

I wouldn't be surprised if it IS the "PBL Summer League" or the "PBL Development League" that is being considered by some of these teams. I mean if the PBL people are now into arena football...........

This is my first year actually following the IBL. As a matter of fact, I still know almost nothing about the IBL west. So I would be just as confused. Why would teams break-off and start their own league? To do the same thing all over again, but only under a different league banner?!? Not saying that they would be wrong for doing so, but what would be the point? Just wondering.

The IBL is turning into the ABA?!? How's so? I followed the ABA until it became pointless to do so, IMO. I seem to remember teams in the ABA refusing to travel, folding after a few games, or playing only a few games then resurfacing for the playoffs. Does that happen often in this league? I haven't seen it yet in the IBL, but there DO seem to be some unhappy customers.

Maybe people miss the good old days of minor league hoops. I don't know. I just don't seem to remember any good old days for minor league hoops.

Ken, you are right about the fact that minorleague hoops has always been unstable, but the difference is that the stability was from not enough money, not from a lack of people who understood basketball.

Do you think there are any coaches in the ibl or aba that will coach in the NBA? is there any players in the ibl or aba that will play in the NBA? I realize that is not the only reason for franchises to exist, but at least theres a mark or something to stride for, and that was always trying to make the basketball better.

I am all for the little guys having a chance, or the non-stars having a chance to play and compete. But the people running the leagues are on agendas that really involve them making money, and quality basketball is an afterthought.

If you really cared about quality basketball, then you would make sure you had a quality all star game to help promote the top players of your league, to help these young men in their careers. I mean thats the least you could do. You average pay is about 50 dollars a game, at least reward their dedication with your league, especially your better players. Give them an opportunity to showcase their talents. Say what you want, at least the PBL tried to put together a showcase to help promote thier players.

For the ibl to allow this travesty of an allstar game, speaks volumes of how much they really care about these players, and their future.
So yes minor league hoops has always been unstable, but at least the people 10 years ago cared!!

Again the Explosion Organization does 1000% better then most minor league do in hosting an All Star or Playoff event. Good Job Brad. This should be the official and only IBL All Star Game. North VS South has a great ring.
First they have a Sponsor, second they have a Logo, third they have tickets on sale three weeks before the event, and fourth they have Local NBA Stars of the PAST - SONICS - coaching the All Star Game.

Side NOTE: Fifth they have great showdowns of the Western teams, and the price for tickets is just $30.00 for an all Tournament Pass.

Now the question is who do root for if my old boys (Explosion) go against my new boys (Slam) in one of these games?

That is the tough question!

First, let me congratulate you on your ability to copy and paste. The same post on three threads strikes me as just a bit excessive, though.

Why you would think this North vs South (aka Best of the Best who are in the West) game should be the IBL ALL-Star game is beyond me. This game will be missing the 5 of the top 11 scorers, 3 of the top 5 rebounders, and 5 of the top 10 assist leaders. There will be no players from the team with the best record (Elkhart Express). While it's likely it will be a fun game to watch, it is in no way representative of the best players in all the IBL. The official All-Star game in Gary had a logo - I couldn't tell you about sponsors or how early they started selling tickets, as I'm in Elkhart, not Gary. You do know that the reason all those 'best' players will be there is because of the playoff, right? Not because it's the great All-Star game.

If you want to see a well-run championship tournament, come to Elkhart. We have sponsors and a logo and I bet we have better attendance. The home team fans come early and cheer on the teams in the early games, too, not just their home team. And I couldn't tell you how much I paid for my East playoff tickets - since I bought them weeks ago.

By the way - North vs South has been done - back in the 1860's. The North won.
