I want to bring up the attendance issue. I know it is contentious and we have seen enough threads that argue about how it is calculated or whatever. So I really don't want to rehash that.
I just have a simple question. For your GBL team or for the teams you have visited, what do you think is actual butts in seats attendance. I realize it is highly subjective but I am just trying to get a feel. I think what spurred my curiosity is the numbers the Canada fans see at their parks (I think I read that 1500 was a lightly attended game.
For the Silver Sox, it was 150-200 each game for the first homestand of this year. It was as large as 1500-2000 maybe for the Canseco game in 2006 and I would say it is probably about 700-1000 on fire works night and probably about 400-500 on any other weekend with weekday games in the 200-400 range.
And, S. Sox, feel free to correct my numbers if you think I am off.
I've only been to Chico and it seemed like they had about 500 or so people there for a Friday game I attended last season.
How about the other parks?

You are right on regarding the Sox... I must say I'm impressed with the Canadian attendance.

1500 is not a "lightly attended" game here in Calgary. Last year with the Vipers winning like they did attendance was improved over previous years, but I'd wager a guess that on average there were maybe 1000 - 1200 butts in the seats - less than that on weekdays, more on (warm) weekends. In both Calgary and Edmonton weather is a huge factor. Early in the season (ie now) it's still very cold - we've had snow in the forecast as recently as last week so obviously people tend to stay home. Ditto for late August onwards, the casual fans tend to stay inside where it's warm.
This year the Vipers are doing way more marketing than I can ever remember so we're all hopeful for bigger numbers. I'm not going to broach the subject of announced vs. actual attendance but I will say that it would sure be nice to not have to try and count heads to get an idea of how many people are in the park!

The home opener in Edmonton had a reported attendance of 2100 give or take. But in my opinion, it really did feel like there was more than that. A buddy and I guessed 3000-3200, so I was a little taken back when I read the reported attendance for the home opener.
Since then attendance has come back down to earth, the second game on the Saturday night was around 600. Sunday's game and Monday's game was around 300. But the weather could have played a big part.
We were really clouded over on Sunday and thundershowers were forecasted. I know I debated going because I figured it might just get rained out. And Monday was chilly and breezy, so it may have deterred a few people.
It should be interesting to see what a little warmer weather...and "fingers crossed", a winning record does to our attendance this year.

FlyersFan you will certainly love Pitching Coach Dana Leung. I have played against him before and for him and honestly in all my years as a baseball player I have learned more from him in a week than I ever got to learn about the game in the 25 years i have been playing this game from T-Ball to Semi-Pro.

According to the stats at Ballparkdigest.com Edmonton last year averaged 1792 fans per game, and we had 1551 a game. Those were the lowest averages in the NoL last year and put us right near the top of the GBL averages. That being said, the average for the S.Sox is stated at 1291...so who knows how they are getting the numbers??
I can say that I was at games last year that were cold and rainy and there were a hundred or so fans at the game by the end, and some that the stadium seemed nearly full...
I'm hoping that the C-Cats can maintain those numbers and as was said earlier there has been a bigger marketing push then in previous year so I'm hoping we can crack the 2000 plateau for the season.
I'll see you at the game tomorrow
Matt
