From the story I read, it seems that Calgary couldn't get an already signed player(john Odom) over the border(due to his having a criminal record) and had to trade him away. But instead of trading him for a player, or cash, the Calgary Vipers of the GBL used the opportunity to get themselves some badly needed press, and traded him to Laredo of the UBL for some bats.

But the funny part is that the bats they traded for, were made of maple wood... which ML baseball is finding out, break a lot more often than the ash bats. I hope Odom lasts longer than the bats he was traded for.

How is he doing with the Laredo team? I thought Maple was stronger than other bats?
