So who's the next callup this year? I'd love to see it be Ronnie Fields, as you know I'm a huge fan, but I've given up. Snap Hunter has NBA type skills and might be the best canidate for the Lightning I guess since the leading scorer in the CBA the past 2 seasons apparently isn't worth even a 10-day contract... yeah I'm bitter...
I'll be seeing the Sioux Falls team Friday, and always like to see good basketball (which they ALWAYS show me), so hopefully we'll see more possible call-ups.
And where's everyone gone? The new board is great....
I just don't know a ton of player's in the CBA this year like I did last year... guess Europe and the NBDL has taken it's toll....

We're here, just getting used to the new format. you are right about Snap Hunter, he will be the next call-up more than likely.
Ronnie Fields has been great these two seasons in the CBA, I think if they would give him a chance (10 day contract) they might be suprised at how good he really is.
Overseas has really been taking the players, not the NBDL, also the ABA has snatched a few.
The CBA showcases them and then these guys are able to get good money overseas. Can't blame them.

I know this much, the ABA is a virus to basketball. That league doesn't deserve to get anybody quality. I guess the draw of playing with crappy talent and being a star would lure some players, which ultimately hurts the CBA. I can't fault the ABA for trying, but there's too much failure and stupidity in their organization and it's roots for them to ever succeed.
Regardless, it's nice to see the CBA expand, and I'd love to see the NBDL, ABA and CBA combine into one well run, quality league. It would be sensational for the minor basketball community to have that type of unificaiton, with more players, more teams, and more involvement, ultimately with the NBA.
Can't wait for the Sioux Falls/Rockford game tonight. Sioux Falls always is packed and I love their cozy arena. Perfect for CBA basketball.

Naw! You're a HUGE Ronnie Fields fan, RonnieFan? I find that hard to believe. :D
Okay, I'm a Homer, but I don't see Snap Hunter making it to the NBA anytime soon. My understanding is that the NBA is looking for role players from the basketball minor leagues. I've only seen Snap play twice, but the only role I saw him excel in was 'throwing up the rock as early and often as possible'. Personally, I think he is going to lose more games for a team than win.
Ronnie Fields, on the other hand, seems to have the 'complete package' and you would think because of that that he would have a better chance of making it to the NBA. It seems, for some reason however, that Ronnie is operating under the radar of NBA scouts.
Okay, here comes the Homer in me again. Jemeil Rich would be a candidate for a NBA call-up if only he could find confidence in his jumper. Heck! Fans in the stands can actually see the indecision on his face when he pulls up for two. Leon Smith is another likely candidate for the NBA, but he has to learn to protect the ball better. He is not in high school anymore. Pro defenders are going after that ball like sharks to a Steelhead trout...I know, bad pun.

Snap Hunter can flat out score, and can get his shot anytime he wants, and Rockford style encourages him to be aggressive. And Leon is becoming name of the past quickly.
Chicago players I have always stated, simply don't have the right attitude it takes to get better. They usually think they are already good enough. This comes from the overrated chicago public league basketball, with a bunch of bad coaches who don't teach these players work ethic.
Also Ken, I understand that Gary is making some roster changes.

The Steelheads did not take guard Maurice Carter on their western road trip. He will be traded soon. Maurice once played for the St. Louis Swarm of the IBL and Kansas City of the ABA (in addition to doing time in the NBA). Seeing how they did not take Maurice west with them, I think he will be traded to either Great Lakes, Rockford, or back to the ABA. Maybe for Jimmy King of Great Lakes (who along with Maurice Carter saw limited playing time Thursday night). Maybe for Ronnie Fields of Rockford. Maybe for Joe Crispin of the ABA Kansas City team.
I just know that the Steelheads have been winning a little more now that they have started going to the big men more.

Let's see...I thought Maurice Carter would be traded to Great Lakes, Rockford, or back to the ABA. So of course he was traded to Dakota for "unspecified future considerations"...whatever that means.
That makes me 0-2 in the player personnel speculation departement. I also thought Jeff Stern would be a contributing factor this year.

I'm a fan of Ronnie Fields also, but I don't think he has a good enough jump shot for the NBA...I love his fall away shot though...
Regardless, I hope he's playing in the Valley this spring...

i agree to some extent. i think a lot of it is his confidence in it. i'm starting to see him rely on it more now, which is what he needs to do. it's improving, and with everything else he can do when he drives, i think he'd fit in somewhere. if a team needs instant offense, Ronnie could give it to ya.
